Yes. He deserves it for intentionally twisting Jonathan Stewart's foot in the first quarter, thereby effectively killing the Panthers run game (he tried coming back several times, but never looked right again).
Yet the entire discussion of sportsmanship will be centered on Cam Newton.
Dirty player celebrated as a hero of the game. Typical.
Quote:Early in the game, a storyline was defensive back Aqib Talib’s personal fouls. The first one involved him taunting a Carolina Panthers player right in front of his head coach Gary Kubiak. The second penalty saw him nearly rip the head off of wide receiver Philly Brown by his facemask.
Despite winning the Super Bowl, Talib felt he had to voice his frustrations about the penalties he took during the game.
According to Doug Kyed of NESN, Talib said he committed the second foul on purpose.
To nearly take the head off a player just to make a point to the referees is not a good way to go about things. Thankfully, Brown was not hurt on the play.
He got away with a no call on a blatant pass interference, yet still had 3 almost consecutive personal fouls, probably setting a Super Bowl record for asshattery...
But, yes, please, let's focus on Cam Newton. Cause he was out there cheapshotting other players...
Whine, whine, whine. Your team lost. Live with it.

Josh Norman got away with a ton against Odell Beckham Jr.
No excuses, Panthers simply ran into a better team. Denver's D was fantastic and caused the Panthers to make uncharacteristic mistakes. Now, Denver's offense didn't light the world on fire but it didn't need to with that defense. I have a feeling Carolina was overwhelmed in the moment while Denver had been there done that recently and that probably played a part in the outcome as well.

Three times in the Super Bowl, a qb who was MVP played the #1 rated defense and all three times the team with the highest rated defense has won. Case closed.

LOL. You need much better bait than that.
Such an injustice that OB got suspended by the NFL for Norman sllamming the side of his helmet against the crown of OB's helmet while OB was at full velocity.

Well, Leon did have two TDs, Leon can't do everything. Well, you did fumble three times and your teammates had to recover them. Well, like I said, Leon can't do everything.
I feel like there is probably more to the story about Cam not going after the fumble, but I was as puzzled as anyone watching it happen. I don't think anyone can say that Cam shies away from contact, in fact I cringe every time he leaps over the line into the endzone, and the NFL is littered with DBs that have picked themselves up off the ground after trying to tackle Cam. Not last night though.

No doubt Beckham was the villain in that game. Still can't believe he wasn't ejected in that game.

I'm with you on that.
No way he's going to see the ball and jump away from it, especially in the Super Bowl. It's crazy how many people are coming out of the woodwork to question the toughness of, arguably, the most physical quarterback in the league. I thought he lost where the football was, hopped back to see, and just didn't track it fast enough. The only way I'll believe otherwise is if he straight up admits that he felt the game was lost and he didn't want to get hurt or something like that.
I was cool with either team winning, but I hate that it went down like that. Just wasn't Carolina's night. That challenge going the wrong way was just the beginning.
I don't have a problem with him. From what ESPN said this morning, the way the room was set up he could hear Broncos players in another room bragging about "shutting him down" and he was hurt from the loss. Can't blame the kid for that. Mike and Mike didn't blame him either.

one should win/lose with grace, shake hands, deal with the responsibility of the job requirements, and sulk afterwards....

He has taken heat for the post game conference from many people, but the heat he has taken for not diving in and going for the fumbled ball has been more intense. Either way, he brought all the grief he has gotten by the way he has acted this year. He is a great football player, but he is an immature person with an overblown ego.

when he backed off diving for the ball, I lost all respect for him as a warrior...

that one is unforgivable in my book....
People keep saying it was a business decision. I don't get that. He already has his $100mm contract. Drew Brees didn't have a contract when he tore his labrum on the same play.

I agree that Newton has demonstrated his toughness a thousand times and I think your explanation (he lost track of where the ball was for a couple of seconds) is probably true.

he wouldn't want me as a teammate....
that one spoke volumes....
