I understand. You had two great ones in Ray Guy and Favre. And I'm a Falcons local to boot--we sure could've done better keeping Brett instead of trading him away to the Packers.

Just the first thing that came to mind when I saw the thread.

Rice did have a couple of pretty famous football head coaches: some guy name Heisman, and later on Jess Neeley.

and we do have this alum:

In 2012, former Rice and Minnesota Vikings QB Tommy Kramer was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Just a few of the names I've called Favre over the years not to mention the hundreds of cuss word combos I've thrown out while he angered me while watching Packers/Bears games. This week has given me a new light on ole #4 though. He's been open and refreshing during these interviews this week about why and how he tried to torment the Packers due to the way they were treating him. Yes I hrs ember hearing bits and pieces about how the Packer brass was handling him back then but you never really get the real story. He was on Dan Patrick or one of the sports shows I listen to and he was very open about it and his reaction was to dangle his career because that was his only leverage and if they were going to F with him then I'm very happy he F'ed right back.

I DESPISE the NFL contracts and how owners/GMs continue to put own players asking for new contracts early but yet cut players at the drop of a hat 2 years into a 5 year contract etc..

While I still hate Favre, I love the hell out of what he did and for that I am now a fan... WTF did I really just say that???

Please elaborate on the "media hound" one for me.

I'm really intrigued by this one.

As an aside: the football talent that has come through the state of Mississippi is just ridiculous.

Meaning he was constantly getting himself into the news/media when he wasn't being talked about. He would do something to turn the attention on him. He did it in GB, Min & NY. It's well documented and got really old and annoying.

Congrats to Southern Miss for being blessed with New NFL Hall of Famer, Brett Favre!!!!!!! The rest of us should be so fortunate as to produce a player with 1/2 of the on-the-field achievements in pro football. Yes, La Tech, Rice, North Texas, and Marshall have some legends; but I think the rest of us CUSA brethren have a way to go in the STAR department!

Favre was awesome. I got to see him play when he was at southern miss a couple of times. The people posting the deragtory personal crap are losers that need to be punched in the mouth. Too bad we arent in the same conf. Maybe if some schools leave we can get you outa that purgatory.

Of all the teams that left, Memphis is the one I miss playing the most.

Reading comprehension is sorely lacking all across america. Along with common sense. 95% of what people love to ***** about Brett is originated by outside sources.
I remember in his second year after he hung it up, the texans needed a qb. Some writer said, well the could call Brett Favre. Next thing you know its all over boards like this one and facebook people bitching about him being a media whore.
Because someone mentions his name does not mean he was the one who put it out there.

RE: Congrats to USM alum Brett Favre.....
I went with my late father-in-law to see Southern Miss play bammer at Legion Field (he was a famous newspaperman and had free tickets to damn near everything). Favre was suspended for something and John Whitcomb, who would later become a UAB legend (well, at least a UAB radio sideline guy), started. Favre came in and destroyed the Tide. It was epic. People in the stands around us were weeping. It was Gene Stallings' first game as their coach and the bammers were screaming and smashing the "Start of a New Legend" souvenir cups.

That was also the game that started the "we dun wun forty-twelve NC's" gibberish. The Tide ran onto the field through a double column of flag girls with national championship banners, and apparently Stallings thought it looked stupid to run past three or whatever they actually had so he had their SID make up a bunch to make a longer column.

Favre's stats probably weren't great but damn he was tough - not the NFL style he showed later, but when Southern Miss needed a yard, he took hits from 12 guys and got them 37 inches.

He wasnt suspended. He was coming off the car crash in late july and had 30 inches of his intestines removed just before two a days started. He looked like a skeleton out there.
That was also the year we beat bama and Auburn on the road. First non sec team to do that in the same year.
