Of all the teams that left, Memphis is the one I miss playing the most.

Congratulations to USM and Brett Favre. Players like him do not come around very often.

People in the stands around us were weeping. It was Gene Stallings' first game as their coach and the bammers were screaming and smashing the "Start of a New Legend" souvenir cups.

That was also the game that started the "we dun wun forty-twelve NC's" gibberish. The Tide ran onto the field through a double column of flag girls with national championship banners, and apparently Stallings thought it looked stupid to run past three or whatever they actually had so he had their SID make up a bunch to make a longer column.

Favre's stats probably weren't great but damn he was tough - not the NFL style he showed later, but when Southern Miss needed a yard, he took hits from 12 guys and got them 37 inches.

He wasnt suspended. He was coming off the car crash in late july and had 30 inches of his intestines removed just before two a days started. He looked like a skeleton out there.
That was also the year we beat bama and Auburn on the road. First non sec team to do that in the same year.

First team to beat the both in the same year in about 60 years including the sec. Southern miss was a absolute beast back then

Congrats to usm and him. I'm not a real fan of his probably because I'm still aching over his win over us in a bowl game many years ago. That was one of our best teams and he as qb killed us.

I'm a cowboy fan too and I'm glad the 'boys had his number when we played green bay otherwise I would have not liked him more.

He deserves the honor.

The last sec team to do it prior was lsu in the late 70/s I think that was the only one i could find.

With him we beat bama, auburn, florida state and Virginia tech. Had a fg hit the upright that would have beaten Georgia.

Just a few of the names I've called Favre over the years not to mention the hundreds of cuss word combos I've thrown out while he angered me while watching Packers/Bears games. This week has given me a new light on ole #4 though. He's been open and refreshing during these interviews this week about why and how he tried to torment the Packers due to the way they were treating him. Yes I hrs ember hearing bits and pieces about how the Packer brass was handling him back then but you never really get the real story. He was on Dan Patrick or one of the sports shows I listen to and he was very open about it and his reaction was to dangle his career because that was his only leverage and if they were going to F with him then I'm very happy he F'ed right back.

I DESPISE the NFL contracts and how owners/GMs continue to put own players asking for new contracts early but yet cut players at the drop of a hat 2 years into a 5 year contract etc..

While I still hate Favre, I love the hell out of what he did and for that I am now a fan... WTF did I really just say that???
Epic Mind Blown

judging by Aaron Rodgers career at GB...the Packers made the correct call...they did what was best for them, Favre got his.

Yep, I was at that game. I think it was about 110 degrees. He played every other series and still won the game - didn't even get to practice in the fall due to the injury and surgery. Most amazing thing I ever witnessed.

Being reported it took a total of six seconds for Favre's selection to the HOF.
