Any particular reason?

It's only 80 yards and not much wider than the actual field. The site was dug out until rock was hit. At the time it was as good or better than anything in FCS and a lot in FBS. Talk is the university is attempting to buy the old Watauga HS site. It has, albeit a little run down after 7 years of neglect, all the facilities App needs in one location. The bones are there, but major renovation and bringing up to collegiate specs is needed. The plan is to mover the softball field, track, soccer field, tennis courts and possibly weight room out there. Then expand the IPF over the site of the softball field which is adjacent to it. I would like to see the old football stadium converted into a practice facility and use KBS for game day. Most players live off campus these days and parking at KBS is tight.

AppmanDG, or any App fan who knows, whats going on with the high school site, I heard rumors last year that we had some land that the town wanted, and maybe we could use it to work out some kind of deal to get the high school, but that's the last I of heard anything.

From what I have been told there is interest on both sides. It's just sittin there and any hope the county had of a major retailer coming into the site has about vanished. App did the county a favor by selling them the site for the new HS. IMO we should have played hard ball and swapped properties. That's about the only thing that disappointed me during Ken Peacock's tenure. Interestingly enough Ken wanted to build a stadium on that site, but the cost of $75-85 million was a little too steep.

Seems about right, though. IIRC our NEZ addition, alone, was 18 million in 2011. (someone correct that figure if it's off)

It's highly rumored to be part of the stadium construction project once it's announced. I think (hope) it's just a matter of time... 03-shhhh

RE: Indoor practice facilities
Doesn't seem like a lot of G5s have them. A similar thread on the AAC board and most of the schools were talking about them being "in development" Can see it as a good recruiting tool, but also very useful in bad weather or more importantly, in the off season. Early morning work outs, and Spring workouts when the weather is not great. At stAte, the football team probably get's first shot, but I'm sure baseball, softball, soccer, rugby and maybe others also get some use out of the IPF

They're more than just a good recruiting tool, they mean severe weather doesn't have to cost you a practice. Sweltering (dangerous) heat across most of the conference, blistering cold in Boone, torrential rain. I've only been inside it once as a fan because of heavy rain and lightning during a game, and seeing as its 50 yds up hill from the stadium it made a perfect shelter.

An IPF is actually one of the items listed on the current $150 million Upward and Onward Campaign announce in October. They've already raised about half, so it's possible the facility could be built relatively soon.

Idaho has two 75 yard Spinturf outdoor fields with lights.
The big glassed in weight room overlooks them.

Obviously our dome serves as the indoor practice facility.
One of the reasons I think expansion is worth it even if more expensive.

The practice fields costs close to two million .
Our facilities are actually really good except for one glaring weakness CAPACITY.

One of my favorites is at Purdue. It's pretty awsome for something that's been around close to 25 years. The front of the building is two stories with the weight room on the bottom floor and coaches offices on the second. Outside are two artificial and one natural grass practice fields.

Location, location, location. As in real estate your IPF should be near the athletic performance center and that is where ours is. Both facilities are about forty yards from the stadium end zone. I'm loving our new end zone project, new APC attached to the IPF, and the to come fan plaza adjacent to all three.

Yes.....good point, and one that can't be made enough. Not only is our APF great, the fact that we now have the APC attached to it.....and that they are both right outside of Cajun Field I'd is just awesome!

I remember in 2012, App had snow the entire week going into the trip to Statesboro. They didn't step foot outdoors the entire week, cranked up the heat inside and the result was a major upset win. Coach Moore thanked the Sofield family for the practice facility in his post-game comments.

RE: Indoor practice facilities
FYI, about the proposed high school site, it's at the bottom center here, right south of campus. You can see the baseball, softball and track for the old high school. The building itself was demolished to prevent asbestos.

Right next to Kidd-Brewer, you can see a white building, which is the indoor practice facility. The softball field is squeezed in next to it, literally between a rock (mountain) and a hard place (the facility).

What you don't see is that the site is elevated about 100 feet from the road (105).

The current softball field is the location of the previous baseball stadium. The softball field and IPF take up the space of the previous baseball field more or less.

The old high school campus was/is fairly flat it seemed once up the hill off Hwy-105. Why App does not own that piece of land frustrates me on so many levels. If it ever gets developed for something else .... I don't want to think about it to be honest.

Trying to figure out the need for a indoor practice facility when they have a domed stadium.

I learned a few days ago that Mobile was the wettest city in the lower 49.

It is crazy that USA and GSO doesnt have one yet. It rains nearly every afternoon in the Boro during the summer.

Yeah. Other than capacity our AD has done a pretty good job of getting facilities up to speed. And we've stunk enough lately that small capacity hasn't exactly been a problem for us. Looks like that might change soon.
