You guys must have some boosters that really love softball. Seriously, you've got better softball facilities than most DI schools have baseball facilities.
The softball team has a very strong contingent of fans. They really love this program, and the team embraces it too. I don't know if there are any published attendance numbers for softball (nationally); but I'd wager the Cajuns are very high on the list. It really has become a signature sport for the school; with baseball right there as well. 04-cheers
I think baseball has the top spot, but softball is right behind it. Than FB, than MBB, than WBB. IMHO

I really lumped the 2 together. Softball does have more world series appearances, super regionals and regionals. But I really like the way the baseball program is building right now. Outstanding recruiting and the new facilities. I'll definitely need to make it over to Lafayette with the new grand stand is complete.

Ok, understood. And oh that our FB team was where our baseball team is! They no longer 'rebuild,' but truly just 'reload.' One day it will be this way for all of our sports.....robe is just leading the way for the rest of them!

The latest attendance numbers (2014) have softball at 1364 per game for 24 home dates (32,739 total attendance) which put them at #6 in the country.

Sorry, I should also have noted that it is expected we will sell out of season tickets for baseball this year.

Our baseball coach was talking about how much the indoor area has helped his practices this year.

Yeah, that was the big difference in the way AState built, and most schools build. We build our indoor practice facility in such a way that it can be easily set up for baseball, rugby, and golf along with football. Most schools build separate facilities for baseball and softball.

The other day the baseball team used the facility for skills and batting cage work early in the afternoon, and the rugby team came in and practiced a couple hours after they left.

6 World Series appearances and 25 or so consecutive years in the post-season will do that for you. That and a local oil company owner worth a hundred million or so who adopted the program in its infancy. Both he and his wife are now deceased, but the field is named after them.

That being said, yes, our boosters love softball. We have been top 10 nationally in softball attendance almost ever since the program was started.
