Josh wasn't ready to become the head coach. He hasn't learned a lot in 7 years as the record gets worse every year. Barring winning the conference tournament, they won't even make the NIT for the second year in a row.
It's not fair to these young guys who have penned their lifelong dreams of playing at the next level on Memphis. It's not fair to the fans who have been fans a long time to put an embarrassment on the floor. (no reflection on any players).
It's not fair to the donors who have plunked down big bucks to keep getting rewarded with mediocrity. Finally it's not fair to the University with the name MEMPHIS on their Tiger hats, sweats, and hoodies. I have been an avid Josh Pastner fan since he's been at Memphis but enough is enough. It's time for him to move on for his sake and the sake of the school.
It's time to get busy U of M and start to right the ship.
You do realize that the Tigers lead the AAC and are top 35 in nation in attendance.

So- the team has been mediocre the last two seasons for the most part, and even when they were good they were unfortunately short of elite good so not enough good will was built up.
Really?
Any more gems?
Lord, has anyone discussed a game? Or is the board still essentially too insecure to do something like that before another one brings up a fresh point like the team was beaten badly at SMU?
This season, especially the two weeks prior to the Cincy home game, has fallen short. Absent a huge reversal in play, our coach likely will and likely should be replaced. With that out of the way, can anyone discuss a game or a player without the Einsteins blowing in about CBU as though no one knows?
Or has it become required to try and top each other in terms of how much more clever a bash we can come up with?
Can you put some more sugar on it? Your crap is getting old.
You still read her posts?
Is that sarcasm or did you really not know Mimi is a guy after 8 years?

Say what you will about his coaching, handling of players, etc., but ranting that he has been "stealing" from the university (It's not stealing when the money is given to you) and should quit is.....funny.
if he is as good a guy as you all claim he is he SHOULD step down and renegotiate.
The fact is 3 or 4 multi millionaires control this athletic department. It's their play thing and their problem. Everyone else is a peon or a puppet. If they want to bleed it dry then let it bleed!

the whole situation is hilariously awful.
Being a good guy has nothing to do with anything. His contract is what it is, and he shouldn't be expected to simply hand it over just because others think he should. I suspect if you were in his shoes, you'd agree with that.

First I'm not staying anywhere I'm not wanted. If I sucked at my job and everybody knew it I'd leave. And if I was hired to do a job and I know I had failed I wouldn't expect to get paid. (and I know he has a contract and all that) But I'm sure he still thinks he can fix it right...
That's like getting hired to paint a house and you burned it down instead and still expected to get paid for the paint.
But to your point, I'm not sure I could sleep at night knowing I'm getting paid for failing

Nah, a good guy would screw his grandchildren's trust fund. Let them work at Micky Ds and go to State U, not Harvard or Yale. I mean come on, some college basketball fans are upset in Memphis, where are your priorities.

Ummm...I'm pretty sure that if you actually painted the house and were not responsible for starting the fire you would get paid for painting the house.
I think Pastner should go. With the news out of Knoxville and Oxford this week, I see why there are those in charge think highly of Josh and how he "runs" the program.

man who am i kidding i'd sleep like a baby.. but i'm not Coach Jesus Paster
If it were me, I would get me four? of the biggest bouncers I could find, for when I left the house. I wouldn't recruit outside of Memphis, I think I would recruit out of the closest high school to my house. I would only show up to functions I was required to attend. Play video games during practice, etc. The objective at this point is to get fired and make bank.
To walk away is to screw your grandchildren and great grandchildren.

My gosh man, do you even attend the games. The only thing I realize (and actually see) is the damn building is empty.

There have to be some stipulations in his contract that would have a safety net for the University. He has to be making an effort, he has to be making progress, he has to recruit to a certain standard. He has to win a certain percentage of his games.
No way he can just lie back and let the money roll in and dare them to fire him.
My gut tells me its over. I have no connections or insider information. I just don't see either side wanting to continue this relationship going forward. Charlie Moore isn't enough for either party to think Pastner can turn this around quickly. I think both parties will negotiate a fair settlement and Pastner will leave a very rich man just not 10.6 M richer.

Not exactly. Two of those millionaires wanted Jerry Gray. We passionate fans and the brilliant media wanted Larry Porter.
Maybe we should let the millionaires make a few decisions.
