This may be a stupid question, but in this forum I often see abbreviations for both Georgia schools. Is there a set way they are supposed to be abbreviated, or is everyone just supposed to understand from the context given.
In most cases, if I see someone just use 'GS' I'm thinking it's Georgia Southern, and when its 'GSU' I'm thinking Georgia State. Am I correct/have it backwards?
Living in Arlington I don't get much information on the Georgia schools other than this forum, so I apologize if this is something that should be common sense.
As far as the NCAA is concerned, GS is Georgia Southern and GSU is Georgia State.
On this message board however it's an amalgam of abbreviations. I've started to use GS to mean Georgia Southern and GaSt to mean Georgia State and avoid using GSU all together and avoid confusion.

GSU= rings after 6 wins
GS= 6 flags over Paulson
GSU= 6 muggings in the library
GS= 7 conference titles since 2000
GSU= 7 wins since 2000
GS= The women outnumber the men 3-2 and they are all beautiful and rich
GSU= The street bums outnumber the men 3-2 and they are all ugly
Should I continue or have you figured it out yet???
GSU = Gave GS the worst home loss ever.
GSU = Beat GS at the MBB Finals to go to the Tourney.
GSU = Beating GS is most sports right now and will win the first Rivalry Trophy.
I'm a bit tired of Southern fans pooping on State fans while getting our asses kicked on the field in the past year.

My question is with the new "rivalry competition" you guys have implented this year has that helped enhanced the rivalry in any way? Eagles did it take the football loss to actually lump Georgia state with the mountaineers as your heated rivals?

This thread should go well...lol
Im over it, honestly this is the most overblown thing ever between the two schools. On here I use GS everywhere else I use GSU. For sports I'm good with GS.
I truly believe the place and situation dictates what folks call us or how we call ourselves. Instate if you say Southern or State folks know who you are talking about.
I wonder why they didnt go with University of Southern Georgia back in the day. Worked for USC.

I don't know, University of Southern Georgia sounds directional, to me, whereas Georgia Southern doesn't. I know, my brain works weird.
Ok, well it looks like for the most part I was correct on my assumptions as to which abbreviation was most likely being used when on this board, and I'll continue to use that assumption from here on out. My goal was certainly not to drum up arguments over which school is better and/or more deserving of using which abbreviation, just simply wanted to clear up some of my own confusion. Thanks everyone for your responses!
