How Do You Grade Your Recruiting Class?
How do you rate your school's recruiting class?
I really like Tech's recruiting class this year. The class doesn't have a lot of "sizzle" but the "steak" is sure there. The class is really heavy on offensive and defensive lineman. Five offensive lineman were brought in as either scholarship players or gray shirts. You can never have enough offensive linemen on the roster. Also 4 defensive lineman are in with pass rush being a big part of this class. The Tech pass rush is gonna be bringing it with 3 really talented DE's joining a freshman All American DE already on the roster. My only knock is that Tech didn't sign any true wide receivers or get a lot of depth at linebacker. The two possible wide receivers that we signed are big tall bodies that will most likely end up in the secondary. Another positive to this class is that with it not being full, Tech can bring in those transfers that we love so much.
Current Grade: B+

I don't know about a letter grade, but all of the services show our class in the top three of C-USA and we hired a new coach three days ago! Great job by the staff to keep most on board and JHop to close the deal.

Considering the amount of time and verbals that were on board at the time (like 2), I'd say our new HC did a hell of a job.

I think we got some good lineman for both sides of the ball.
Considering all the crap we have been thru with Monken leaving, the lies told by the staffs at tulane, memphis and those bafoons in San Antonio. I give this class a strong B+.

The same as all of our "classes". Check back in a couple/few yrs., as per always. Nobody gets a trophy(at least yet) for pre-season signings. We all hope/wish they'll become something, but most won't.

Yeah, WTF is up with UTSA? They need to be careful. Unlike Boise or Oxford, MS, I don't think the NCAA will have a hard time finding investigators willing to go out to San Antonio and sniff around.

RE: How Do You Grade Your Recruiting Class?
QB: Both talented, but 1 is short and 1 is injury-prone. The upside with injury-prone is huge. (B)
RB: Talented, but only 5'8 and not highly recruited. ©
WR: Depends on if our 2 "Athletes" play here or DB. If DB, we didn't sign any. If WR, they can run. (B)
OL: Who knows? They can knock around high school kids. The JC guy looks good. (Incomplete)
TE: Meh. ©
DL: Excellent. Big, fast, and athletic. (A)
LB: Lost our JC commit the night before signing day. Still looking. (Incomplete)
DB: The 2 "Athletes" would be outstanding here, but may play WR. Got a JC and a big hitter for Safety. (A)
Overall: Still a pending class. Left some ships for transfers. Still need that LB. So far, B-

So other than hurt feelings at USM, what would the investigators find? You want to toss out accusations, better have something to back them up. I would be afraid to look in the mirror, I have a feeling the same bones you say are in our closet, you would find at USM as well.. if not more..
As far as the class, I think it is a solid class, but with a late start by the new staff, I think next year will be even better. The big hole in this class, was the lack of players from the San Antonio area , expect that to change next year. I love that this staff, has hooks in the USM recruiting territory, and that the will have Texas on top of it.

I give ours a B. Pretty good especially considering the timing of the head coaching search and all that.

Completely agree.
Three years from now, we can rank our class, until then its about as accurate as the preseason 25 rankings.

I like following recruiting throughout the year but signing the most overrated day of the year.
Good to see us bulk up on the D-line with our class this year.

RE: How Do You Grade Your Recruiting Class?
I would give the total new additions an A.
Plenty of talent coming in at the skill positions that we won't need right away but will be good down the road. The 2 graduate transfers from UofL are going to make an immediate impact on D for us. Pretty excited overall, ready for Spring ball to start.

RE: How Do You Grade Your Recruiting Class?
While a coach and his program care, I don't follow recruting. I post the following on EP this time each year.
"This is a day I have always found odd. This is the day where middle aged men get excited over 17 year old boys."
Ace...
With that, here is Ace's ranking of USMs recruiting. It is the same every year.

RE: How Do You Grade Your Recruiting Class?
I thought it was interesting that we lost a kid from Arkansas to Univ of Minnesota and a kid from Mississippi to Rutgers. Minnesota has a good presence down here. First time I've seen Rutgers down here. What is it, lack of speed up there?
