I never realized the strong ties between Jay Hopson and Marshall Coach Bob Pruett
I knew that Jay played at Ole Miss and Coached at Marshall during their FCS dominance and their re-ascent to FBS, but I didn't realize the deep ties that Jay had to Coach Pruett OR the ties that Coach Pruett has with Southern Miss, for that matter.

Here is some praise for Jay from Coach Bob Pruett:

Bob Pruett, former Marshall head coach (1996-04)
"He played for me when I coached him at Ole Miss. He was a graduate assistant for me at Tulane and the University of Florida. I brought him to Marshall with me to coach. He coached for me and did an excellent job coaching, recruiting, and relating to the players. You've done an outstanding job (hiring Jay Hopson). I personally am very impressed. I have two grandsons that graduated from Southern Miss with honors. My son graduated from Southern Miss. With Hopson, you have a true fan now of Southern Miss."

If I am not mistaken one of the USM posters on this site is the son/grandson he is referring to. I'm drawing a blank on his screen name but I am pretty sure he's a regular or was a regular one at some point

Billy Free is a grandson or nephew of former/longtime trainer Doc Harrington I believe.

Here's a little extra for you that very few know...until we became conference mates, Bower and Pruett's friendship enabled the two staffs to spend a few days together during the summers. MU and USM are better friends than most ever knew.

My dad used to eat at the same greasy spoons/home cooked places for lunch that B. Pruett did and they'd talk sometimes, and coach P. thought the world of Bower. Also S. Miss football, patterned MU's whole program after them: scheduling, recruiting, play anyone/anywhere etc...Back to back yrs. under Pruett MU played Ohio State/Georgia back to back on the road, gave both a serious scare. Following yr. was Florida/VaTech on the road, FL #1, Tech ranked as well. Why so many of us MU fans have followed and always rooted for you golden eagles and still do against anyone in CUSA, w/ one exception of course. He also couldn't ever say enough good about Hopson. Hope he does a great job for you folks.

Kueck was @Marshall in 1996 and came back from 2002-2007 when Mark Snyder fired him. There's a shot in the nuts.....to be fired by arguably Marshall's worst football coach in the modern era.

Rick Minter was the DC that coached the team in the bowl vs Ohio in 2009

Bill Legg, our current OC has jumped around more than House of Pain:

He began at WV Tech then over the next 11 years was at Eastern Illinois, VMI, and WVU. He then came to Marshall but then Purdue lured him away. He then went to FIU before returning to Marshall.

Now, I saw an article where he is on Clemson's radar.
