WOT: Warning For Android Users
The first link below discusses online banking using Android phones. It's probably not the best ides to begin with but the article shows even more serious concerns. The second link discusses the potential of data theft. It appears that Russia through Iran might be involved in this cyber threat.

In reality, how worried should I be about this? is there virus protection for android phones?

I work for a very large corporation and my company phone is an android, wouldn't they be aware of this by now and let us know?

There are many different virus protection protocols outside of the general protection updates given to the phone on a near weekly basis. You're more than fine. I'd be way more worried if I was an Apple user with the 1970 virus that basically bricks all Apple hardware.

I'd rather my phone be bricked than my banking information stolen any day of the week.

With that said, updates are always being issued no matter the OS your phone is using.

Exactly, unless you are actively searching for a way to get this, it's damn near impossible to happen. I was speaking to the "availability" of various mobile viruses rather than the severity of the repercussions of each. I don't do any mobile banking for a multitude of reasons, but this is not one that I'm inherently worried about.

Yes, there are various virus protection apps for Android phones. It's best not to use 3rd party apps however. Look at the Google Play store for safety. I use Norton Mobile Security. Most Android phones can be encrypted BTW.

Personally, I would never do online banking on any mobile device. Your data and/or money may be in jeopardy before the Trojan/virus is discovered and patched.

Here is a new one that was emailed me today. It doesn't appear to be that serious but you never know.

One of the safest things you can do is just turning off automatic MMS downloading. That's how a lot of phone viruses spread.

Hmm, I just looked at my phone and noticed "Auto-retrieve for Multimedia Message" was turned on. I turned the feature off. I rarely text anyway. I'll have to test what happens with this feature turned off.

Thanks for the heads up!

Only thing that should happen is that you'll have to manually click download on Group Chats, Pictures, etc...

Obviously don't click download from a number you don't, also click message details before you download to see if there is anything fishy
