RE: Any late recruiting movement?
I recall him pinning some pretty good and distance would be a function of how far we drove before the ball stalled and we seem to do that a lot, get a few 1sts then stalll.

The Blade has a list of area players who signed with other schools than OSU/UM/BG/UT and punter Hoover isn't on the list. Neither was Perrysburg's big all-state linebacker Chaz Westfall (6-4,250).

IMO our punting really hurt the team last year.

Westfall signed with Grand Valley State.

I thought our punter was pretty good. Until they told him to go Rugby.

He started well and made some excellent punts that forced long drives for the opposition. And then came, yeah, the rugby thing. Have to think that wasn't his idea-he wasn't good at it but we kept doing it. Infuriating.

Unfortunately it's about the only effective way to run a fake punt with the snap to the punter instead of an up-back...and so you need to "show" it often enough to lull the opponent. But it doesn't work so well if you can't actually punt the ball with any distance or direction rugby style.

My guess is it becomes a major practice point for the punters heading into next season, as I doubt that it will completely disappear from our playbook.

what the heck. He must be as slow as molasses in January. With that size, he could be a DE or move to OL. Maybe he demanded to be a linebacker in college and was not open to a position change. I heard he was pretty good, but never saw him play. Maybe the size is not real.

Never saw him play either, but he was all over the news and was a tackling machine. Not sure if he had any D1 offers, but you would think someone like EMU would have offered.

Ranked ninth in the MAC in punting average.

Didn't he drop a few snaps as well...and that damn rugby kick. 03-banghead

Biggest issue, I think, was consistency. One kick is a boomer, then the next one is a screen punt.

Yardage is one aspect of punting. It seemed to me that Ellis did a nice job, directional punting, pinning teams deep, getting hang time. The rugby punts were brutal, but I guess they did set up the one fake. He has definitely improved over his years at UT.

That being said, I would like to see the CCHS kid end up at UT as well.
