Athlon Pre-Spring 1-128 Starting QB Rankings
http://athlonsports.com/college-football...kings-2016

Keep in mind, this thing is not always 100% accurate, it lists Upshaw as our QB and says that Ellison has exhausted his eligibility??. Also it is projected Spring starter, and the write-ups often mention upcoming battles, etc.

As far as Sun Belters go:

#128 Scaife, GAST
#127 Davis, USA
#112 Davis, ULL
#110 Rogers, NMSU
#109 Hansen, stAte
# 85 Linehan, Idaho
# 73 Smith, ULM
# 72 Silvers, Troy
# 54 Jones, TXST
# 41 Upshaw, GS
# 20 Lamb, App

There's no way Linehan should be any worse than 3rd on this list.

RE: Athlon Pre-Spring 1-128 Starting QB Rankings
Personally, I don't put a lot of stock into these kind of ratings, 'specially in February.

I do think that Jones' growth/development under Fran was stunted . . . .

With Fran gone, and a new staff in place, I'm looking forward to the coming season.

Can't wait to see how the new staff Coaches our guys up, and can't wait to see if it doesn't translate into a Big year for Jones . . . .

I don't see how he warrants the last place on the rankings, if he even ends up the starter, but I guess someone has to be it. Why not Georgia State?

Scaife is playing for his football life. The Manning kid didn't graduate in 2.5 years and come all the way across the country to ride the pine.

The way he came in and dominated BG, maybe he should be the starter. Dude is lightning fast. I dropped my jaw when he ran that QB draw play up the middle and split the safeties. Reminded me of a poor man's Armanti Edwards.

No doubt AE was a beast on the football field, Upshaw shows flashes, but often gets tackled too easily. No problems with lawn equipment yet though, so he has that going for him.

Athlon Pre-Spring 1-128 Starting QB Rankings
If Hansen ends up the 7th best QB in the league he will be the biggest bust I've ever seen.

Something tells me he will be occupying space somewhere from 1-3 by end of the season.

Less hills/mountains in Statesboro. Lawn accidents are more frequent in Boone. Ask Merle Watson...oh wait...

RE: Athlon Pre-Spring 1-128 Starting QB Rankings
I will be happy to see Lamb graduate. In our game some of his best throws almost landed in the stands. Kid makes great decisions. If our QB's just threw the ball away like he did that game goes down to the wire and we don't get obliterated by WVU.

Upshaw got the bowl game bump it looks like. He did not play that well most of last year and this one to be that high I dont think. If the bowl game was his coming out party then we might be onto something.

Southern Miss transfer Tyler Matthews will unseat Tyler Rogers easy at NMSU and should be one of the better QB's in the league. (*I hope)

I just got a response from Athlon on why Upshaw was here and not Ellington. They said based on the season's statistics that Ellington was considered a RB.

I'm curious that they've chosen a starting QB for stAte before we have.

Heh.

Armanti was the real deal and easily one of the 2-3 best multi-threat QBs I can recall in I-AA, but I think Upshaw might be faster. Armanti was just 'good.' And he had guts. People would knock his head off and he'd just go pick his head up, stick it back on and torch somebody the next play.
