Life as a G5 fan
Oh and by the way, when I tell people I'm a GSU Panther they go, " Okay but UGA is your D1 school right? They play real football "

RE: Life as a G5 fan
I can honestly say that I hate NC State fans more than UNC or Duke fans. UNC and Duke are legitimate national powerhouses at basketball and they have a bandwagon fan base because of that. NC State isn't particularly good at anything in the eyes of anybody who didn't go to NC State, but to those who did, they have the team that should win the ACC in every sport, every year.

When NMSU fans are wearing NMSU Aggie gear they get mistaken for Texas A&M Fans either by real Texas A&M fans or others. Be interesting when we play Texas A&M for the first time next season in Football.

Other than the constant jeers and frowned upon of being a G5 fan, what I hate is having to explain the hierarchy of College Football itself. They just don't understand. First, you have FBS and FCS. Then in the superior FBS, you have Power 5 conferences and Group of 5 conferences. Even if they say they understand, they still think you are FCS, which to them might as well be Division 3.

I haven't yet attended college yet, but I've been a GSU fan since they started football and I realized what a good school it is. They also have been competitive in basketball. My top two schools that I have plans to attend are GSU and KSU. Even if I go to KSU, I have put these last years of my life devoted to GSU and don't know if I could ever give it up.

I would have thought the first five years of our existence would have pounded away any loyalty we managed to pick up from non-students when we started football. Glad you hung on. Even if you end up at KSU...you, sir, are a devoted fan, and don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise.

Oh and this is usually Tuesday or Wednesday... Plenty of time to look at ESPN at the score.

My boss (Ga Southern Alum): "Oh who won the Ga Southern football game this weekend?"
Me: "The Eagles won/lost (insert score)"
My boss: "Yeah that's cool... I went see the Athens to watch the dogs play <insert team> and Mark Richt is terrible coach"

There is a guy at my work place that works in facilities and wears Alabama t shirts and baseball caps...every day. Different ones...every...single...day. I do not believe he matriculated there or can spell matriculated.

I've gotten this one before.

Under Armour and Adidas aren't sold at Wal Mart, so I can understand the confusion.

It was twice as bad for GS. We were DIV II in every sport because we did not play DIV "I" football or BCS or whatever....

I dont know how many times I had to explain the DIV I-AA / FCS thing but so glad I dont now!!

true. to some degree you are showing state pride when you root for the flagship school. here in texas tho. I root against ut-austin because I consider them to be arrogant when it comes to how they deal with my school while a-m seems easy to deal with and will play us at our place in pretty much any sport.

UT Austin is just arrogant. Period. They are not singling us out. Just part of the package. Does not particularly bother me.

RE: Life as a G5 fan
Having attended a state flagship school and an FCS/G5 school, I've never understood the 'you must be a fan of the school you attend' rule. It's a free country.

I pull for both first, then teams from the South.

As for "life as a G5 fan" I find it an awful lot like it was for me as a fan of a I-AA school. I just never really cared much what other people said or thought. Still don't.

True, people are certainly free to be douche bag bandwagoners all they want for the "big" state school and turn their backs on their alma mater. I mean schools like thUGA thrive off it.

People can be bandwagoners all they want, their choice. Hell I was rooting for TCU against Oregon and I'm going to be rooting for Cam Newton and the Panthers in the Superbowl. But still TXST and the Cowboys trump all for me.

As far as UT arrogance, at least they've accomplished something. Aggies are just as arrogant and have to make up championships.

Not here to change your mind, your experience/opinion are your experience/opinion..

In my experience, there's no arrogance like Longhorn arrogance . . . Period.

As far as Aggies . . . you can say an awful lot about 'em . . . and the Jokes about A&M are endless, but I'd hardly call them arrogant . . . . if anything, they seem to have more of an inferiority complex where TU is concerned . . . . though I must admit, I've seen less of that since they joined the SEC . . . . But that's just my experience and my .02 cents . . . .

At one point in my childhood I was a UT fan, then I noticed all of my Mexican side of the family was as well so I switched to A&M and really hated UT because I have to be contrary and stayed that way until my senior year when I took a tour of A&M. Then I discovered the inferiority complex you speak of. I swear the tour guide talked more about UT than A&M. That, along with other experiences turned me off of A&M big time and made me dislike UT less for some reason. Then I went to TXST!02-13-banana
