Obviously when Fleck moves on we'll be able to upgrade at head coach too, then.

I think Jimmy Williams will be a better coach than Reynolds just because of experience. Recruiter? That's going to be tough. You watch. Syracuse will begin having a big presence in Detroit now.

Hart clearly got a lot out of the running backs, and his name carries weight still as a recruiter. Burns is going to have to do some work I think to match Hart in both areas. Who's to say he can't though?

And frankly, I think our LB crew was a weak spot of the team. So, I'm not concerned about McGarigle leaving either.

McGarigle gave us Corey Davis, Robert Spillane, and Javarian Franklin.

Good one.

Remember when you say work for a better best, that doesn't mean it will always happen.

Actually Brian Callahan was responsible for Jarvion Franklin (McGarigle did help recruit Spillane).

McGarigles other recruits in that class were Elliot Jordan and Zach Novoselsky.

I think Corey Davis was mostly P.J.

Well, we certainly did that a few years ago, didn't we?

Deal with it.

RE: New Hires
four years and we are still debating whether or not Fleck was a good hire.

I realize it is off season, and the bball/hockey teams are not super interesting this season, so I get the need to complain about topics such as this.

At this point though, I am looking forward to the day when WMU has to hire a new coach (in some sport) as at least there will be new material and perhaps new allegiances. Oh the possibilities!

Yet to be determined.

Fleck's three-year record virtually identical to Cubit's last three years.

Huh?!

Fleck has a superior bowl record and a much better record against CMU.

Your childish hate obscures your vision of the obvious. 05-nono

RE: New Hires
Cubit was 2-1 vs. CMU his last three years, same as Fleck's to date.

Perhaps if there had been a made-for-TV exhibition OOC game in the Bahamas (among the 60) when he was coach he might've been able to get a "bowl" win too.

As I've posted before, I don't "hate" Fleck. Not enamored with some of the things he says and does, but I do support him because he's our coach.

You, on the other hand - I wouldn't walk across the street to spit on your hair if it was on fire.

RE: New Hires
Cubit did have wins against P5 schools.

Now I am playing along in this irrelevant argument.

I wouldn't say a lightbulb, something heavier, like a tire.

RE: New Hires
With Fleck it's the peripheral accomplishments he puts out there while building the program. He's exciting and the media loves him. He brings a buzz which brings attention. As long as he continues to keep graduating kids and keeping them out of jail while winning more than he loses were doing well... It's a money game and he's bringing in the $$$.

Quote:Fleck's three-year record virtually identical to Cubit's last three years.

But basically under Cubit, the sub-parness lacked any good years with the sub-parness spread out over all 3 years (more heavily on his last)... where as for Fleck, 2 Good years, and the sub-parness was just piled up into 1 year. Even with one of the toughest WMU schedules in history being one of the good ones.

Anyone would rather have 1 (intro) season horrible and 2 8W seasons + 1st bowl win, not to mention other stuff -- than 1 season of just plain bad + .500 + a respectable 7-6.

IMO, the only "equalness" would be totaling the W/L, which can be deceiving when one year is way way off. Kind of like Brady Hoke who had the 1 12-1 year @ Ball State, and the year before that a bit-over-.500 year, but everything else was countless losing seasons. His last year made his overall record around .500, even though he had plenty @ BSU that was far from that.

WMU COMPARISONS:

Would one want (to keep) a coach whose last 3 seasons were: 6-6, 7-6, 4-8 -- while losing to EMU twice, and IdaHO at home....

... OR bombing out his first year in but soaring after with: 1-11, 8-5, 8-5 -- while beating EMU twice instead, and beating (not losing to) IdaHO on the road, while winning their first bowl?

Not a hard-to-choose situation, IMO.
