Houston has games coming up with: Tulsa, SMU, Memphis, Temple, and Cincy...so their attendance should go up...

Never thought I would see a half empty arena for a UCONN game.

Half capacity at the XL center is over 8,000. Given it's a Tuesday night against Tulane, I'd say that's a good turnout...

Don't be that bit*h dude. Point was is in the old BE, this would not have been the case. And once upon a time it would not have matter who the opponent was for a program with the pedigree of UConn.

I don't get why UConn schedules games like Tulane, ECU, UCF and so on at the XL it looks embarrassing on TV even if they have 10-11k on the stands the 5-6k empty seats pop out.
These games Should be played at Gampel and the big Games should be played at the XL need to schedule smarter.

You shat on UCONN's attendance...and just showed your ignorance regarding UCONN's past attendance vs the dregs of the old Big East.

Your original post was dumb. Dumb post from a dumb poster.

UConn has to play a certain number of games at XL per the contract and there are some big must win games that they want to play on campus to turn up the intensity more. It is what it is.

Until that game... UCONN's conference average was better than it's non-conference average.

If you can't promote a team/program the caliber of UCONN against anyone, then its an internal problem not a conference problem.

Attendance for the most part is down just observing games on tv. Ucf had respectable attendance a few years back.

I think UConn's attendance is fine. Especially when you factor in that we average nearly 10k a game for women's hoops too. It's a lot of butts in the seats for UConn games in CT even for less than marquee competition.

XL Center in Hartford is owned by the City, not UCONN...and UCONN generally pays a flat rental fee...so its the City that loses $$$ (arena generally runs a $3 Million per year deficit that is usually covered up by State funds).

The State is looking at doing a total renovation of the 40 year old building by spending $250 Million and having UCONN "partner" with them without having to invest any funds. (Revenue from UCONN events would be shared).

http://www.courant.com/real-estate/prope...story.html

As with almost any college game (football or college), yes, games played on-campus in college arenas/stadiums generally provide a more exciting atmosphere but UCONN needs men's/women's games played in the old Hartford Civic Center to keep some local deep pocket alumni happy.

XLCenter for big games usually has as much if not more energy than Gampel, just on noise level alone, but for the most part, there have been some drub games at XL.
