I've been down there for Memphis vs USF in the St Pete Bowl...and Memphis vs USF football/basketball games...one of my favorite trips.
You hit some good spots. Theres so much to do in the Tampa bay area its sick. I believe our beaches were rated again in the top 10 nationally and the South Tampa area has an amazing vibe with some really great cuisine coming out of there. I recommen Datz the next time your in town, or if ya want to drop some cash and get amazing steak and seafood, hit up either Berns or Charley's (not Charlies the chain)
Ft Desoto was the nicest beach I've ever seen...we rented jet skis and the dolphins literally came to swim up next to us...it was really cool
I went cheap on the food to save some money...I did the 6 buck shrimp basket at Frenchy's...Cubans at Pepo's...Gyros at George's in Tarpon Springs (you can get 2 Gyros for 7 bucks)...and La Terecita (sp?) after Busch Gardens/Yuengling Brewery tour
food was all pretty solid...esp for the low cost :-)

Well nobody knows that UCF is there since it looks like every mall in orlando just with ugly ass pegasus everywhere.
Ive lived in both cities. Orlando sucks compared to Tampa. If you want a cool vibe with everything, come to Tampa.
If you want a Disney-eque soulless stucco covered traffic jam, well go to Disney. They have some great strip clubs where the girls are basically totally covered too (so disney of them)
Lol, this right here is proof you've never stepped foot in Orlando.
And Disney is about as close to UCF as it is to USF.
Used to live in Ashington Park off of Tanner road.... Ive been to your shopping mall many times. Worked at the UBC which is nearly on campus.
and Disney isnt that far of a drive and it ifects every inch of that god forsaken town. Seriously, strip clubs with nipple pasties???? Too PC for me. Ill stay in Tampa where we actually know how to party and everything doesnt look the same.
best part of Orlando was grabbing calzones at Rossis off of OBT. Total hole in the wall but they are damn good.
and btw... if Orlando is so amazing, then why is it actually dropping in DMA while Tampa is rocketing up... you dropped from 17 to 19th and Tampa has moved from 15th to 13th and now 11. SHortly well be a top 10 DMA... that doesnt happen because we suck.
(is that game, set, match... feels like it to me)

Well then you are just straight up lying then, because Winter Park, Sanford, Altamonte, Oviedo all look more like Northeastern towns than anything associated with Disney. In fact, i'd bet you'd never even know Disney was there once you get to the city proper... say exit 82 and farther on I-4.
I'm sure there are any number of reasons why the DMA's stand as they are, but a shift in 2 ranks isn't going to kill anyone, and we're certainly not hurting at all.
P.S. i'm not sure that i'd consider strongly the opinion of someone who judges cities by their strip clubs. Just FYI.

Pockets of Tampa are really nice but those pockets are no where near USF. University of Tampa area is nice
trying to spin that UCF/east orlando/winter park is not nice or generic is comical. Orlando is a very nice college city and the overwhelming interest from hs applicants all over FL show this

And here is another thread about TAMPA that got blown up by the Orlando crowd... And lest anyone want to throw darts at us, it started with that very classy moderator post in the #2 position. Seems we're still living rent-free in some minds over in Central Florida.

To the OP, welcome to Paradise. See the Beaches, party at Ybor, get some Cuban food. Busch Gardens in Jan with low lines will be great. The locals can comment more, I became a Texan a few years ago...

Thats a quality objective opinion right there.

You do know that usf and UCF has similar looking aspects of their campuses right. It is interesting that the basis for your argument that Tampa is better than Orlando is the nipple pasties vs full nude. Aren't you the same guy that was saying a while back how you value womens sports just as much as mens because you have a daughter lol.

I love how some USF fans assume UCF fans have never lived or grew up in Tampa
Between Downtown, Winter Park w Rollins, and East Orlando w Valencia + UCF that part of metro Orlando has college students everywhere and has a great collegiate vibe that Students love. Tampa is lacking in that

I was actually impressed when I went to my sisters graduation last summer. The newer buildings are nice and it has a cozy yet open feel.
Now tear down that eyesore from the 90's, MOSI, and build a damn stadium so we can beat you in it.

Most people who talk crap about USFs campus havent been on it in well over 2 decades. Its a beautiful campus now and no matter what Zfred the moron likes to try to say, Tampa has considerably more history and vibe than Orlando.
Are both "nice"... yeah, but I find Orlando to be VERY cookie cutter with pockets outside of the city to be nicer. Hell even the women all look alike. Go downtown and youlll find 10,000 women in the same black dress.
It all comes down to taste. If you want something that looks very much like a master planned community (to me I think it looks like a mall) then UCF is your campus. Nothing wrong with people liking that feel.
If you want more of a cozy campus that has more vegetation, mature trees and a traditional style of campus, then Tampa is your place.
and Mosi will be gone soon. The final details of it moving downtown are coming. Which btw, will be another massive feather in Tampas cap. That downtown area near the Lightening will be mind blowing.
whether we get the land for a stadium is still up in the air. Developers are throwing a TON of cash at Tampa in order to get it. Land that is sandwiched between 50K students on one side and Busch Gardens on the other is gonna be worth a pretty penny. I think in the long run well get it, but its not gonna be a quick battle.

RE: Tampa, I'm inside you
I'm in the crowd that is starting to get lukewarm on the MOSI site 'itself' for the stadium. It's at an extreme corner that will make most of the on campus parking quite a walk for average folks. I'd rather see the stadium either in the NE corner or by the Sun Dome itself. That would make both Fowler and Fletcher streams for gameday traffic, make more OC parking more reasonable to get to the stadium, and probably parking across Fowler (in whatever becomes of that site) accessable as well. Basically get the stadium as close to the center of campus as is reasonably possible.
All that said, if it has to be the MOSI site, so be it... I'd much rather see the bulls 'home' in a green stadium there than renting the bucs red house. But if it's MOSI, I think most non-students will still drive in/park (at MOSI)/drive out... similar to what happens at RJS anyway, and which misses the intent of getting folks 'back to campus'.

RE: Tampa, I'm inside you
I want MOSI. No qeustions asked. Its the PERFECT spot for the stadium. Technically we wont own the land, therefore it wont be an OCS. Some conferences have rules about serving beer or liquor in on campus stadiums and with this setup, we wont ever have to worry about it.
Theres already an overpass style walking bridge to let people come across from the campus to the location and I think theres a chance we can save many of the current buildings already there and convert them. Id love to see the small round building near the rope course building be converted into an "Cigar City Brewing" beer station. Maybe make the kids building into a gameday experience area with football drills and activities. Stuff like that would go a long way into building a connection to USF. We started football so late that were just now getting our first generation of kids who grew up as USF fans.
Lastly, that location would give us a boost for naming rights. Almost everyone that goes to Busch Gardens or Adventure island pass that location. It is a very high volume road and we can get better money for naming rights since the stadium would be right on the road.
