RE: Army, class of 1915 is on campus
Let's examine
C Hunter Buckowski- LB two star, no offers. We already got the best player /athlete. from Mt. Pleasant HS in Perry. Buckowski will be a nice addition to the CMU baseball team.
D Bryson Dixon- LB no offers, not even found until the last week.
D Dixon- LB no offers. Found this week. He's either a grey shirt, a no show, or it's a misprint and Bryson and LeBryson are one in the same.
B Bailey Edwards- WR probably a good signing by the current CMU standard of "good."
C Josh Eldridge- DE, no offers, but seems to have good size.
C Kümmel Gwilly- RB, no offers. Runs a 4.6, fits a mold of pedestrian RBs that Bono has brought in the last two years. Size, but limited speed.
D Tee Harvey- WR. No offers, very smallish. Kid was on nobodies radar.
D Austin Hergott- QB no offers. Had a bad senior year. Good measurable so. One of a bazillion QBs brought in by Bono. To quote Bono, "Competition is great." Well then, why no bring in 20 QBs? Your job is to evaluate talent, not waste scholarships, and hope someone pans out.
B Jakkar Jackson- DB offers from Kent and Balls. Comes from a solid HS program.
? Tony Lazzaro- QB No offers. Left HS as an undersized QB. Grew at JC. It's hard to tell with JC QBs. Rival automatically gives 3 stars to JC commits. I suppose with 7 QBs one of them will pan out.
B Alonzo McCoy- DB. An actual recruit with a quality offer from UT. According to Bono they were able to flip him after Cambell left. So in other words, we didn't have a chance until a better recruiter was out of the picture.
A Leon Page- DE. Had offers from Balls, Kent, Eastern, and BG. Looks like a kid who will see the field.
A Tony Poljan- Multiple P5 offers. Accoerding to Bono, the combination of legacy, Rush went to LCC, and wanting to play QB helped secure Poljan. A good get, but not exactly a sign that Bono can recruit. Bottom line is this kid could play other positions if tge QB thing doesn't pan out.
D Jonathan Ward- RB no offers. Undersized RB, avg. speed. Similar to other RBs brought in by Bonomego.
Small class with three players who will contribute in the next couple of years. Poljan, Page, and Edwards. Central lacks depth at DB, so these freshmen will see the field, although with limited impact.
Centrals OL got progressively worse as the year went on, and with this class has added no depth or talent. Added two RBs to a stable of marginally talented backs.
From what I've seen CMU hasn't had a good class since 2012. This class is very similar, with one or two impact players.
After listening to Bono and Fleck on WDFN as well as their press conferences, I simply can't see Bonomego hanging with Fleck in recruiting. It's not a youth thing, or a B.S. thing. It's more a Pete Lembo thing. You've either got the personality to do it or you don't. Bono may have a great football mind, but not be the kind of guy who can sell you convincingly. Fleck may not be a brilliant football mind, but in the end talent is the name of the game, and can cover a lot of other short comings.
