Conference standings are really in a knot up top. A wild season thus far.

RE: William & Mary
Glad to get the W, but it took a lights out game from Denzel to make it happen. Our 3 point shooting has made a huge turnaround, and Ingram is the reason. We are now first in the CAA in 3 pt. fg% at .389, with Denzel at #2 hitting .525 in CAA play.

We had 16 TO's to 10 for the Tribe, and Ingram had 7 himself. Not sure what he was doing last night, but his passes were telegraphed and weak. First game I can remember since Keatts arrived where we lost the TO battle, the steals battle and the assists battle.

54% FG shooting and 48% from 3 won the game, not our defense.

Our press was ineffective. The Tribe seemed to make two passes and it was over.

Talley impresses with 7 rebounds and ZERO turnovers.

Gettys with 11 rebounds and 6 blocks but only 2 points. He's also the best FT shooter on the team, and he's tied for 6th in CAA play, hitting .857 from the line.

I really thought our post scoring was far improved this year from last, but we are now getting practically nothing on offense from the 5 spot.

CJ Bryce continues to impress. A starter all year, he is effective on the drive, from the 3 and on the short jumper. He seemed to be the best at driving into the zone under control and getting to the bucket to score or draw a foul.

And Flemmings. Not sure what to say about this guy. He has a an xbox game, where the ball just goes in the basket. 19 points and 8 rebounds and it's barely noticed. He has one of the smoothest games of any player that has ever played at UNCW. By far our most consistent player. Rarely has a bad game, and can be counted on to stuff the stats effortlessly. If we really need a bucket, Flemmings always seems to deliver.

Concerns are scoring against a zone, creating some offensive production from the post, and REBOUNDING. UNCW is currently last in rebounding difference, at -7.2.

62 - I can certainly understand your feelings following what was a loss for you guys. I know we all have experienced such losses - if you play the game, it will happen to us all.

82, the rebounding deal is why we need Chuck to be Chuck again. We need him, Gettys and Bryan rotating in for each other and to have a combined effort at getting to the glass.

Agreed. Unfortunately, it seems like every time we start getting production from either Gettys or Chuck, the other disappears.

RE: William & Mary
We haven't paired two big men in CAA play, so i'm not shocked about the rebounding. The 4 has been Sherwood or Flemmings for the most part, and Gettys or Bryan at the 5. I really thought Cacock could have contributed against the Tribe in the post.

Chuck just looks completely out of sync now. I think his limited playing time has him playing rushed, knowing he's coming right out. Plus, with Gettys at the 5 and almost no scoring, you have to put a scorer at the 4. We started CAA play Gettys and Bryan and it looked horrible. We simply could not score. Right now we don't have a 4 that we can pair with Getys' that is big and can score.

Watch out for next year. Matt Elmore arriving at 6'9" and 225 lbs.(down from 240...he's a big boy), can flat out put the ball in the basket. If Keatts starts Gettys next year, look out for this lineup.

Talley(6ft), Bryce(6'5"), Flemmings(6'5"), Elmore(6'9"), Gettys(7ft.)

We could then being Ingram off the bench at the 2 for instant offense, and Jaquel Richmond or Fornes in for Talley. Cacock and Grundy will hopefully step it up at the 4, and let's not forget Matthews.

I totally get what you are saying 82', but we would have loved for Keatts to bring Ingram off the bench yesterday or limit his minutes. Perhaps for the rematch in Williamsburg he can play 10-15 minutes?

Would also be nice if neither team loses again until the rematch while I am asking for miracles.

Hard to criticize anything you guys did yesterday, crowd was good, the team played with great poise and energy, and you guys shot the ball very, very well. I just wish Cohn could have made that shot at the buzzer. However, you guys had been so close to beating us before, things tend to even out.

Hate to admit it, but JMU really impressed me winning on the road at both Northeastern and Hofstra. Seems very likely that they will be the only team in the league to do that.

RE: William & Mary
One final note on this game, as it relates to our rematch later in the season: Last year, in the first matchup between the 2 schools, Addison Spruill put up 33 points (12-16, 5-6 from 3). The 2nd time around he was held to 8.

It'll be interesting to see if the Tribe put a similar focus on Ingram after putting up 30 (10-17, 8-13). If they do, Bryce might be the one who has the big day. He put up 20 points in just 27 minutes yesterday. And of course Flemmings will do Flemmings things.

It takes a special kind of talent to get to that level. I usually only use that kind of phrase for Adrian Peterson or Stephen Curry.
