Yeah, Anderson micro manages nothing. That had to be appealing to Faulkner. Faulkner will be 100% in control of the offense.

Probably a whole lot of reasons.
More $$, -- Doesn't sound like MTSU was willing to pay more
more control -- if Stockstill is really in charge
and let's admit it, opportunity to use stAte as a stepping stone. Could it be that he has a better chance of getting to a P5 school by moving?

How long has Stockstill been at MTSU? If Stockstill isn't leaving and Buster has already been there 4 years, then his window to leave MTSU for a P5 is probably shut. he can get a fresh start under a new guy at stAte.

Maybe he likes winning conference championships and playing in front of larger crowds too.

It could definitely be a win-win situation for both. We definitely had mixed emotions with Bell, and many were not sad to see him go. I can definitely see MTSU fans feeling the same way about Faulkner.

Getting at least a 20% raise. Maybe that was the reason.

Bell was making $225K, so I figured that's about where he came in.

I wouldn't blame him for leaving for $40K more particularly since our DC is making $300,000, but we weren't going to pay him $200K plus to run the offense. He just doesn't have the experience to make that much for a G5 program.

Now, if we can get Craddock we could pay him as much as $250K right off the bat.

Bell made 205K last year.

The big difference is that Anderson won't micromanage like Stockstill has always been famous for. Faulker will be considered the head coach of the offensive side of the ball, and will be responsible for coordinating his own press conferences each week. The only expectation Anderson has is that Faulkner maintain the style and pace of play that we like.

If he averages 35 points per game here, we'll win the Sun Belt easily again.

Bell had bonus incentives taking him up to $220K+ no?

One can safely assume all of our assistants had bonuses related to winning a conference title and a bowl berth. I am not sure how much those bonuses were worth. Bell forfeited all his incentives and had to pay a 25K buyout when he broke contract by leaving.

Easier conference is a draw for someone like Faulkner

Not easy enough for MTSU apparently.

The gig he's being offered is better, more money(with lower cost of living) and more responsibility.

We're happy seeing him go, you're happy believing you could take a coach from us. If we were happy with Buster and felt he was worth what you guys do, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Congratulations on your new hire.

I don't think he's as good as our previous OC, but he'll develop in time.

Apparently 2 larger programs were trying to hire Faulkner as well according to ASU's biggest inside source.

Pretty easy to believe we "took a coach from you" because it just happened. Now obviously part of that is because MTSU values an DC giving up 26.6 per game nearly 50% more than an OC racking up 34 points per game.

Ego BS aside, you don't see many people switching jobs for less or equal pay, the willingness to pay more than the current employer is how "taking a coach" happens.

Home run ball Walt, gave him $200k+ with no OC experience.

Don't think you understand. If we wanted to keep him that badly, we would have. He wasn't the reason we were so successful offensively this year - it was two players, Richie James and Brent Stockstill. And that was our HC, not our OC, who made that duo happen.

I doubt that was our highest offer, but you keep thinking that.
FWIW....like most of FBS, we don't want your head coach.

I can see why ASU fans would be high on this issue but if ASU out bid 2 larger programs, I call BS.

Could see him choosing to go with stAte and Anderson since they have a good team coming back and it could potentially lead to a better gig. Being the OC at stAte and making 250 in Jboro is more appealing for taking a lower level P5 job in a metro area with a higher cost of living.

Anderson is really, really, big on work/life balance for his assistants. He makes sure they have plenty of family time. I don't know if that played any role, but it can be appealing if there are young kids involved.

How is he on work/female trainer balance?

Does Theboro know something about our departing OC that we don't know?
