Tim Selgo has announced that he is retiring from Grand Valley State
This was announced a few months ago but I just found out: I don't remember seeing this posted here, so I thought I would mention it. Sorry if it's already been discussed and my memory is failing me again.

But congratulations and good luck to Tim, who did an outstanding job as the AD at Grand Valley. Here's a link to the news release (from August 2015) on the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference site -

I always hoped that somehow Tim would end up at UT, but he found a long-term home at GVSU. He could really nail those 3-pointers, one after the other, all net. When he was hot, he was a shooting machine.

He knew how to hire football coaches there.

That's for sure. He would've been my top choice to replace O'Brien had he left.

Great player, great guy and great AD, but there was no three-point line when he played.

My mistake. His PPG would have been a lot higher with the line. His deep shot was something else.

Amen to that. And he played defense, like all of his teammates and unlike ... Never mind.

PPG would likely have been the same or worse since defenses would key on him past three point line. Still, he was a good shooter.

Keyed on him with Dick Miller, Jim Swaney and Harvey knuckles roaming the baseline?! The scoreboard may not have had high enough numbers to show how many points we would've scored if our opponents left those guys to go out on Tim. Opponents those days had to pick their poison trying to figure out who to guard. It usually didn't work for them.

Tim worked very hard to become a Division 1 player. He did a tremendous amount of running changing his body shape and improving his speed.
I knew any guy that worked that hard would be a success in life. Tim's done a great job at GVS. Congrats to him on retirement!04-cheers

Offenses changed dramatically with the advent of the three pointer. I'm just saying he would have had more looks on long Js since they count for more. Then defenses adjust and guard more outside in. He would still have been a very good player but his scoring wouldn't increase much, IMO.

RE: Tim Selgo has announced that he is retiring from Grand Valley State
Tim has had an amazing career at GVSU. He is currently the President of the National Asso of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. He is the only DII AD to hold the position. GVSU has won the NACDA Directors Cup as the top DII program in the country 10 of the last 14 years. Tim has probably been the best DII AD in the country in the last 19 years. Great that he is a Rocket Alum for sure.

Story on Selgo, reflecting on his career at GVSU http://www.lanthorn.com/article/2016/05/...-gv-career

Quote:Over Selgo’s 20-year career, the Lakers have secured over 150 GLIAC titles, and earned 19 team national championships, 10 Learfield Directors’ Cups and a host of individual national championships.

Wow, talk about an impressive resume.

A lot of water has flowed under the bridge since Selgo last suited up for the Rockets which I believe was also the last NCAA Tournament game the Rockets played in.

RE: Tim Selgo has announced that he is retiring from Grand Valley State
rkt is right on with Tim's PPG. No one would have been able to handle the challenge of guarding the "3" and still accounting for Miller, Swaney, Knuckle's. H2O is not on target with that one.

An aside on Tim coming back to UT...I have talked to him at length about that over the last 20 years. He has always said that once things got moving in the right direction at GVSU, it would be hard for him to come back. He has made them, without a doubt, the #1 DII program in the nation. In fact this week GVSU dedicated the Timothy W. Selgo Showcase of Champions. A great tribute to all he has lead GVSU to over his tenure. It is a very impressive display to say the least.
