How Did The Apps Do It????
Back from Montgomery. I am still trying to figure out how the Mountaineers pulled out this win. Not only did almost everything go wrong for most of the 2nd & 3rd quarters, when you consider the impact players standing on the sidelines the win becomes even more improbable. Meadors, Nunn, Harris, Law, Bronson, Sims and Harkness all out of the game. McGuire goes down on the first play and Gray leaves in the first half never to return. Chapman, Gossett and Boggs all playing with painful injuries (Boggs reportedly will have surgery this week on his shoulder) and Bethard playing about 1/4 speed. That's just the guys I know about. We won't even mention those who were lost early in the season. Down 24-7 in the 4th quarter they could have quit. With only a loss to the #1 team in the country and the Sunbelt champs, it had already been an outstanding season. Winning 10 games and becoming only the 4th team in history to qualify for a bowl in their 1st year was reason enough to be proud. But this bunch of Mountaineers didn't quit. They didn't settle for really good. They went after greatness and fought back to pull off one of the most thrilling and important wins in Appalachian history. I am so incredibly proud of these players and coaches. They made a 30 year old dream of playing and winning a bowl game come true for this Mountaineer.

Good job now hopefully GS can pull off a win. The confernce needs it badly after the other two bowls.

It was an incredible experience indeed. I attended all 3 NC games and treasure those experiences but this weekend was even more exciting. I have never experienced a game with as many peaks and valleys as I did on Saturday.

As for Montgomery, all I can say is that the city really embraced the game and made it an enjoyable experienced for all who made it to bowl game.

At least Bowling Green is dealing with a coaching transition along with Ga. Southern.

Southern just has pull out whatever got them to beat Florida and come within a hair of beating NCSU and GT and UGA. Leave behind whatever made them lose to Ga. State.

RE: How Did The Apps Do It????
Was glad to see App win, although it took me some time to resolve an inner conflict.

On the one hand, did I want to see I team I've hated since the early 1990s win or did I want to see a team representing a state I've come to loath win?

In the end, I decided Appys haven't moved into my neck of the woods in such large, traffic congesting numbers like Ohioans, so I pulled for the Appys.

Great win for the Mountaineers.

Disclaimer: Of all the 22 million Ohionites who've moved South, few seem to be fans of Ohio University, since most I have the misfortune to run across demonstrate an allegiance to that other school up there. The one that has something to do with a buckeye. Therefore, I probably could've pulled for the Bobcats, but since Ohio remains a four letter word and ...

RE: How Did The Apps Do It????
The season and bowl win are even more impressive when taking into account how many players were recruited before we announced our move to the Sun Belt. On offense we had 1 starter, and 4 second string guys that came after the move up. On defense we had 4 starters, and 2 on 2nd string. That shows how good of a staff we have, and how hard these players worked.

If app state and gast could avoid becoming bowl eligable I would appreciate it, it was horrible cheering so loudly for you two over the weekend. Congrats on the win though, it was an exciting game and the stands being packed made the atmosphere even better. Hopefully we can upset BG Wednesday.

Darin Gantt said it well: "Most teams would have quit down 24-7 in the fourth. Most teams aren't Appalachian State."

RE: How Did The Apps Do It????
If we had lost the game we could be asking the same question.

App ran for 300 yards against a top 50 run defense and our defense gave up 6 points not off turnovers.

The game had two key moments. App was dominating on both sides of the ball until we had the ball 4th and 6 on the 35-40 and decided to go for it. We played aggressive when we didn't need to and Ohio got some momentum, which led to 17 points in the last five minutes of the half. The other key moment was Blair's forced fumble as Ohio was driving on App when the score was 24-7. It was an avalanche for 3-4 minutes to start the fourth. Then I remember looking at the clock and saying to my friend there is sooo much time left.

Great back and forth from then on. Never seen two teams each turn the ball over that many times in the matter of 5 minutes in the same game.

Awesome victory, really enjoyed the experience.

This win remains a source of conflict for me. Despite justifying a single inadvertent noise that appeared to be directed at the tv when CrAppy scored the go ahead my daughters remain scepticle of my allegiance to Big Blue. I'm proud but sad at the same time.

Heart. Even when the chips were down, it was evident how hard and well the defense was playing. Once we got on a roll and especially the last drive, it looked like the Ohio defense got tired. It was a crazy game and I am sooo happy we won. 11 and 2 sounds good!

Ohio was up 17-7 on our 11 yard line following a 40 yard pass when Blair forced the fumble and picked it up. Unfortunately he didn't return it for a TD. Four plays later Ike Lewis politely handed the ball to Ohio's LB who promply ran 45 yards for a TD to make the score 24-7. At that time things were looking rather bleak.
