Could Will Grier use coastal carolina as a transfer loophole?
A player who transfers from an FBS to a FCS school does not have to sit out a year.

Coastal Carolina right now is an FCS school they will still be playing in the FCS in 2016 so he could take the field in October 2016 as soon as his suspension runs out.

Then by his senior year Coastal Carolina would be a full fbs sun belt team.

Would that work?

I think they put a hold on the transition schools so they can't do that.

Yeah, once Coastal files, you have to sit a year to transfer.

Dont they not start their transition until 2017?

I can't answer that. I do not what Coastal has filed with the NCAA and what they have not filed.

Don't worry too much about it, he's not going to coastal.

That's the long and short of it.

Exactly, he'd be transferring in to play for a team that cannot make the postseason for the next 2 years by NCAA rule.

He has to sit out the first 6 or so games next season per NCAA edict so he will certainly transfer to a P5 and sit out next year. There is not a plausible scenario that I can see that takes him to either CCU or an FCS program. If I had to guess I'd bet he winds up at Arkansas.

He'll have to sit out a year, just like Upshaw did when he transferred to GS from FIU. Because even though you are still playing at the FCS level, your scholarships have increased greater than the FCS limit. These are reasons why you won't be playoff eligible & he'll have to sit out a year.
