Cubit and Illinois
Chicago TRIBUNE reported yesterday that Illinois is considering giving Cubit two-year contract to stay on as HC.

Interim AD said his status will be determined Sunday after Illini's final regular season game vs. Northwestern.

Strange upon strange but it is Illinois so it makes sense. Apparently they expected Rick George to take the AD job so much they have zero plan B. Not joking, they are considering a Tennis guy who lives in Australia right now.

RE: Cubit and Illinois
Andy Staples on SI's Campus Rush has an article on the "ideal candidate," or who the school should hire, for each of current 13 openings.

He says Illinois should keep Cubit because he's done a good job in difficult situation, and Illinois having interim chancellor and interim AD.

If you read the Illini "Galloping Ghost" Football forum, there are some holdouts for keeping Cubit on after this season but no question majority want to get a new coach.

Problem is the instability not only in athletic department but university as a whole, and the timing. Who's going to hire AD? The coach? When?

The pool of candidates may not be that good either because of above. After all last time they wound up with Tim Beckman who had limited success at Toledo.

I know they got burned with Beckman, but wow, Babers and Campbell have their programs really rolling.

Because of Beckman Illini fans may revolt at hiring another coach from MAC (especially UT) - and it's not a given Babers or Campbell would want the job, considering the mess in Champaign.

Being able to recognize class and integrity. It is a common human condition that comes with life experience, common sense and a moral compass.

Apparently somebody has to point that out to you so you're not there yet. What grade are you in?

Whatever happens, Cubit has shown his class and integrity in a very tough situation. I've spoken to several UI employees and alumni over the last couple months, and they all like the guy a lot.

Good luck to Bill no matter what happens!

That kind of kinetic energy is good. And it hurts when you talk about the MAC that way. 05-nono

Babers' offense is pretty fun; pretty effective. Campbell should bring his O-Line coach with him wherever. That line does magnificent work. They both seem to relate with youngins.

With so many openings, surely they are being considered.

In what respect is he recognizing class and integrity? Which common human condition is it to not spread rumors about another man (or an entire university in your case, LOL)? What grade do you need to be in to learn that one?

Two-way street, old timer.

That phrase, "Rolling in the MAC" likely was applied to Beckman and Hazel, as an example. Buyer beware.

Watched WMU a lot this year and caught portions of several others and the level of ball looked good. But in context it was MAC level which certainly is competitive and "on any given day ..." but it isn't P5.

The delusional souls on the NIU board keep advocating to parlay their magnificence in dominating the MAC on the field and their bowl appearances to leave the MAC and either join a larger more fitting and prestigious affiliation or cobble together a new one of made of other great and underappreciated assets. The emphasis is often on "hurry up and do this before we tail off..."

Toledo did well knocking off a poor and likely under motivated Razorback team. You cant help that the schedule comp is overlooking you and you need to take advantage of it. UT did, but then we saw them absolutely unravel against NIU who did the same against both CMU and Ohio. We saw UT demolish BGSU but fold like my right knee against NIU.

I guess one could argue equal greatness means parity amongst that elite group. But I don't see it. It is the MAC which is a solid conference that plays at a decent level providing some talent to the next level.

Two-way street, old timer.

Like South Street in Kalamazoo it's one way to any and all with half a brain.

You wiff again, but nothing new.

You push rope trying to besmirch Cubit. No legs. Stopped for no gain.

What rumor what other man are you grasping for?

Re NIU, the facts on the ground are evident and published. The outcome is speculative but based on the evidence such as the budget impasse in Illinois and the President of EIU stating in a letter that EIU possibly faces that outcome align.

Couple that with a Master level student being told that his classes were moving from offsite back to DeKalb, then being told that the class was canceled in DeKalb and that the larger program was going to be discontinued due to the possible closing of NIU's doors in the fall.

So you have a student without a classroom, without a class and without a program to support it.

Either the NIU employee lied and or is in a quite an influencer to get the class to be moved and canceled. Maybe just a disgruntled employee taking bits of facts and info and shaping it to fit a narrative.

Kind of like you with Fleck.

Good fit at UCF if he can field a decent defense. Wide open offense would put fannies in the seats. Don't need anymore USF butt-kickings like last night.
