RE: BEAT WMU
The Rockets have done their bit in helping NIU to get to the MACC game over the past 6 six years. They have paid enough homage to the Huskies and DO NOT need to continue this behavior any longer by losing to WMU which would send a walking wounded NIU once again back to the MACC game.

The Rockets have been given the gift of a second chance after their chances were pronounced DOA by many (including myself) so they really need to go out Friday and put Western away without hesitation.

It was Western who sank the hopes of the 2000 Rocket team and it should not be allowed to happen again.

Who really wants to drive to Ford Field and watch Toledo beat BG's arse a second time in one season? It's better to be 11-1 than 12-1 and conference champs, right? lol

Lol thank you

I remember being there for that. 21-14. That was the last time we've won a game of big significance. It was also the year we snapped Marshall's long home winning streak.

Followed by 15 years of not getting over the MAC's upper crust in key games.

It just seems like 15 years, it is actually only 11 years which is still too long. The Rocket won the MACC in 2004 (over Miami) behind Bruce Gradkowski and Lance Moore and in 2001 (over Marshall) which was Chester Taylor's last year.

I was actually at that 2000 WMU game as well---it was the only game that year that the Rockets looked flat and it cost them big time. I remember it was a long ride home arriving back sometime early Sunday A.M. as I recall. That is the year that Western should have won the MACC game but as the season wound down Gary Darnell embarrassed the school and demoralized his team in his shameless and very public pursuit of every major college coaching job that opened up------it was a truly pathetic spectacle as he pimped himself to every AD with an open head coaching job. IMO his behavior is what allowed an unusually sub par (by Marshall standards of the time) Marshall team who had lost earlier in the season to Toledo by a score of 42-0) to slip in the back door and defeat WMU. The irony of ironies is that year Gary Pinkel who usually quietly turned down most private inquiries regarding his availability for open coaching positions very quietly accepted the Missouri job while Darnell came up empty. I sure his antics hurt his recruiting efforts and WMU start down the path to mediocrity which eventually led to Darnell be fired as I recall but not before the program had been damaged.

Incidentally, as I remember it, the regular season game in which WMU beat Marshall was at WMU not at Marshall, but I could easily be wrong about that. Of course the MACC game was ALWAYS played at Marshall which my opinion made the MAC a real bush league conference in those days.

Might not be very important, but the thought crossed my mind. Mark Beier went to Alaska. Does that mean he has a tough trip back to the Glass Bowl for the game against Western or does someone else call the game with Andy?

RE: BEAT WMU
Makes sense that somebody else would call the football game. Especially since Mark is doing the games by himself in Alaska.
