What are the scenarios if NI loses ?
Some one lay them out for me. What are the implications and for whom?

RE: What are the scenarios if NI loses ?
Basically if they lose and toledo beats us, toledo goes to Detroit. If NIU loses and we win, you have a 4 way tie with two losses and we're pretty much toast due to losing to BGSU. I think toledo still goes because they and CMU would both have no losses to an east team, and toledo owns the H2H. I'm not sure if the H2H comes back into play or not.

RE: What are the scenarios if NI loses ?
Would the tie breaker be the records between the three tied teams?
So if WMU won Friday their records against each other would be
UT would be 1-2
CMU 1-2
NIU 2-1
WMU 2-1
Then would the tie breaker be head to head, which NIU WOULD GET THE NOD, or record against the East?

We don't do the MAC West only record as the tiebreaker, I take it?

You are right. It is Head to Head records with with the 4 tied teams. Then CMU and UT would be eliminated and the tie breaker would be head to head between NIU and WMU.

RE: What are the scenarios if NI loses ?
Quote:1. Head-to-head competition
A. In the event of a multiple-team (for example, three teams) tie, the team with the best head-to-head record among tied teams wins the tie-breaker;
B. In a two-team tie, head-to-head competition will be the first criteria;
C. If two teams did not play, the second criteria is used to break the tie;
2. Record of tied teams vs. common opponents within the division
(versus rank order, highest to lowest, of division teams)
A. The above tie-breaker procedure is used to determine rank order in the
division;
B. Team(s) eliminated in the second tie-breaker criterion are not included
in further consideration in tie-breaking formula;
C. Head-to-head competition is again used to break the tie between the
remaining tied teams.
Yep. It'd be UT 1-2, CMU 1-2, NIU 2-1, WMU 2-1 --> NIU gets the nod. In the B1G (if I remember correctly), a sole winner would be needed in this 2nd level or another head-to-head isn't done, but just goes straight to record against other division. But here, it's simple... NIU is going to be rooting for us, after we chuckled at them for losing to Ohio.
Problem is, NIU is banged up and will be riding off a true freshman QB who just got red-shirt stripped in the middle of the game -- they're going to get SMOKED by BGSU if we win. Won't bring a good rep to the MACC game -- and Toledo will be unranked and no longer a mere 1-loss team.
I think general MAC fans who aren't strong fans of BG (for an easier MACC game), or any fan of NIU (to advance) or WMU (to have a technical 'share' of 1st place in MAC W) will be rooting for Toledo to win, as it will only make the conference look a step worse if a limping NIU represents the West and our conference's ranked team disappears.
An interesting setup we're in!

So we can all agree now that the BGSU loss matters?!

It's always mattered, but it matters LESS to lose to BGSU than to have lost to NIU or Toledo. So if we were to have only 1 loss, it'd be best to have lost to BGSU. And, if we are to have only 2 losses, it would only help our statistical chances to win tie-breakers if one of those losses was to an East team.
If went 6-2 with losses to Toledo & NIU, instead of BG & NIU -- in a 4-way tie of 2-team losses in the MAC, we wouldn't be in the Top 2 of tie-breakers. :)

RE: What are the scenarios if NI loses ?
Fleck wasn't nuanced in his explanation. He made it sound like BG didn't configure into things, when it certainly did.
Giving a tiny benefit of the doubt, maybe he meant to say something along the lines of we still controlled our own destiny, win or lose that game. But it didn't come out that way.
Fleck has his good moments in media interviews. But that part wasn't.

I think that was it. We still controlled our own destiny being undefeated in the MAC West. It was an affordable loss, but the ONLY affordable loss. Obviously any additional loss would Drop our chances. I think he was focused on the NIU game. Them beating Toledo -- if we lose that game against NIU, he figured they're going, we're not.

He may haven't been clear, but there were "a few" Flecksters around here defending what he said as gospel. Seriously, he could say he was bigger than Jesus and get defended. Even the Beatles had a hard time warding that misstep off, Fleck wouldn't, his backers would be behind him all the way.
