Strange year for the Sun Belt.
Think about this: If App State beats ULL at home and wins at USA, If Arkansas State wins it's last two and the bowl game, and If Georgia Southern wins it's last 2 and the Bowl game, the Sun Belt would have 3 teams with 10 wins this year. That would be an incredible achievement for this league,

The problem is, not a single other team in the conference would have finished .500

Yikes.

With our close loss this week, I think it's safe to day Georgia Southern won't be getting any votes this week in the polls.

Pretty hard to top 2001. UNT at 5-6 takes the tiebreaker and goes bowling while 8-3 MTSU stays home. Six out of seven teams finish below .500 and one of them is our bowl rep.

Coolest was 2011 with no ties anywhere in the standings as we had every possible win total in the standings from 8-0 to 0-8.

And there was no pairity. Every team beat all the teams below them in the standings, and none above them.

This applies to the non-conference games as well...

South Alabama beat the team that looks very much to be the favorite to win the Mountain West.
We beat the fourth-best MAC by four touchdowns with our backup QB.
And App State hammered a CUSA team that will likely reach bowl eligibility.

The Belt's season was sunk with so many OOC games lost within one score.....GS is guilty now. It appears some of the teams that lost those games would be heavy faves today. Might be setting up to be a good year next year.

And a lot of the games weren't even close too. The only team to come within 10 points of us was 2nd place WKU in that game where the replay system gave us a win.

Yeah, it's more of an indictment that the rest of the conference just isn't good this year i.e my Cajuns...

Pardon my French, but what the Hell is going on with you guys. I understand the lost of Broadway and Harris hurt, but with Robinson and McGuire, you should have at least been competitive in the league race. Instead, you've left us on our own to combat the newbies.

I don't think Hud is bringing in the quality of linemen that he inheirited and the strength and conditioning looks suspect to me. They try to play with tempo and they are the ones with their hands on their hips.

I think line losses as well as your top returning lineman lost for the year early started it off, and then nagging injuries keeping guys out 2-3 games so you never build any cohesion in the line has hurt. When you're a run based spread team and you can't get consistent line play it makes it tough. We had four years of no line injuries and we're getting it back this year. That being said, our line and wide receivers next year need to step it up to show improvement in the record.
