RE: What are the tie breakers?
There can't be a 1-loss three-way tie at this point.
2-loss 3-way tie? Will come down to the records against each other, then record in the MAC West, then record of MAC East. I'm going by B1G rules here, but I believe it's pretty much the same.
WMU: 6-2 (L: Toledo, BGSU)
NIU: 6-2 (L: CMU, WMU)
Toledo: 6-2 (L: NIU, BGSU)
BUT wait. If that's the case, then CMU will Very Easily be a 4th!
CMU: 6-2 (L: WMU, Toledo)
In THIS case, I *believe* Toledo would go. Us AND Toledo would only have 1 loss against the tied people & MAC West (due to BGSU giving us each a loss)... and between WMU & Toledo, Toledo would go since they'd beat us in this example.

If CMU wins out,
and NIU wins out
and we only lose to NIU.......
I think that leaves us in a three way tie with the Chippewas and Huskies.
WMU beat CMU, CMU beat NIU, NIU beat WMU.

RE: What are the tie breakers?
How about this unlikely, but far-from-impossible scenario:
- CMU beats Toledo.
- We beat Ball State, BG, and NIU.
If that happens, we would lock up the West before even playing Toledo. Toledo and NIU would both have two losses at that point, and we would have the tiebreaker over CMU.

That's a pretty nice scenario, us beating both BGSU and @NIU, on top of taking care of BSU who may or may not show up to be challenging to anyone.
I will bet my neighbor's virginity that Toledo IS going to suffer another conference regular season loss. They have to play @BGSU, WMU, and @CMU. Good luck going 3-0 on that Ely.
I can't see us going 3-0, so when we lose, I hope it's to BGSU -- which is the most likely -- and nothing else. But beating both @Toledo and @NIU -- ouch. I see us going 2-2 the rest of the way.

We don't need it, but the MAC West sure will get it. No way is anyone winning it outright this year!

Rumor has it that tie breakers are rock, paper and scissors.
First one to make a paper boat that doesn't sink with a rock being carried in it wins. Everyone gets the same amount of paper and it is the same stock and wgt.

If it's CMU, NIU, and WMU -- each at 7-1 with their only loss to each other....
1. Head-to-head competition [NO CONCLUSION; EQUALLY 1-1]
2. Record of tied teams within the division [versus rank order, highest to lowest, of division teams] [NO CONCLUSION; SAME RECORD WITHIN]
3. Comparison of conference winning percentage of cross-over opponents of tied teams [WMU WINS]
Quote:a. Tie-breaker is awarded to the team whose cross-division opponents had the best cumulative conference winning percentage;
Since WMU plays BGSU and NIU & CMU does not, WMU would find the tie-breaker in that.
However, for this CMU/NIU/WMU 7-1 tied-scenario to work -- WMU would have to beat BGSU, which is a TALL ORDER. BGSU is roughly as good as Memphis.

There is a simple adage applicable here.
Just win.
Sticks n stones and hypotenuse of right angles are for kids and dweebs.
