Arkansas State at Appalachian State Discussion thread
Since this is the clear game of the week, and it's on a Thursday, I figured I would start this one a little early. Winner has the inside track to a conference championship.

Both of us might have gotten caught looking ahead this past week, getting scares from improving teams.

App won last years game in Jonesboro behind 300 gazillion yards from Marcus Cox. stAte then went out this offseason and specifically recruited with Cox in mind.

Thoughts?

RE: Arkansas State at Appalachian State Discussion thread
well, if this week is any indication of the fan support, probably looking at 14 to 15 thousand, with 7 or 8 leaving at half, no matter the score. As far as the game goes, App most keep Ark St qb in the pocket, if he gets outside of containment, he will have a lot of success. Personally, I think App have become so dependent on the running game, that the passing game has suffered, we only pass when absolutely necessary, and very little aggressive, down the field passing, Lamb has been taught, unless they are absolutely, wide open you don't throw he ball. Eventually, maybe this week, someone is going to shut down our running game, maybe Ark State, and I'm afraid we are going to have to win a game throwing the ball 25 to 30 times, not sure we can do it.

If we decide to only play a few minutes of the 4th quarter in this one....we lose. Can A-State play solid football for four full quarters? There has been no indication of it so far.

Play like we did the 2nd half against USA, 1st half against ULL, and 4th quarter today, we can easily win this game

Play like we did in the other parts of those games, and Georgia Southern can go ahead and fill in Boone, NC on the shipping label for the Sun Belt Trophy.

I'm betting stAte doesn't give App nearly the game we did

Actually, I could understand if only 14-15 show up, 3rd straight home game, second in 3 weeks on Thursday night, but half the people leaving after just a couple of hours, amazes me.

RE: Arkansas State at Appalachian State Discussion thread
The old couple next to me on Saturday left after regulation because they had dinner reservations with friends. They weren't the only ones. People always leave during the games for whatever reason.

It'll be less than 20k because it's the 3rd home game in 15 days and second Thursday one. But whoever's there will be loud.

I feel App can move the ball well against stAte. The big question is now stAte's offense does against App's defense. They didn't look great on Saturday but they've showed up more games than not this season. The only reason stAte made it close last year was special teams.

O/U on gadget plays by stAte is 6.5.

My guess both teams struggles last night have given the opposing team's coaches something to consider in their game plans.

App struggled on defense due to Troy's pace, many times our defense wasn't set when they snapped the ball, we must improve their or Ark St will take advantage of our pace.

Unfortunately I see a similar game as Troy in which the OVER is the play even before the line comes out.

I don't know what the self mutilation is all about with Moehler and other app fans... we had 26k at the Troy game and it was parents weekend. I've been going AppState games for 30 years and parents leave early for the restaurants. I'm really sick and tired of it... were not Alabama. Heck they even have droves leaving at all time during the game. Be glad that we get 26k and are the 2-3rd best attended team in the sunbelt and shut up. Take a gander on ESPN 3 replay and take a look at the attendance around the conference yesterday.

You can't control what other people do, at your age you should know that by now.

We're making too much of this. Troy wanted a coming out party and GaState had two weeks to prepare and wanted a coming out party of thier own. In the end: both teams that should have won did. Thursday won't be about trick plays and desperate teams looking to turn things around. This game will be more like a heavyweight fight.

Doubt that with 5 days (4 in the case of stAte) to prepare anyone is going to be bringing a whole lot of new into the game.

You don't know Ark St's coach, minimum of three "trick" plays Thursday.

He seems to have dialed that back a bit.

Let's just say I think he'll have something special for this game. The winner is the likely the champion as even if the winner Thursday loses another game they will own the tiebreaker. He knows that and will bring a wrinkle or two.

You may be right. Oh but the SBC does not do tiebreakers. Two teams have same record they are both champs.

Saint is on the coaching staff at StAte. Case you didn't know. My point wasn't about wrinkles. It was about tendencies. Both of these teams are not searching for identities. They know who they are at the core. This is a high stakes game, not a nothing to lose game.

Cute 92. Go watch their coaches tendencies the last couple of years, don't have to be on the staff to see it.

Still play USA and Idaho. After last night, I'm not so sure you can pencil anything in as a sure win.

Should I call the wahmbulance for you? Jesus Christ. And as far as actual game observations go I'm not sure we're watching the same games. Most of our shots are down field passes off a play action, and I've seen Taylor throw more than one deep ball into double coverage, so I don't know where you get the notion that he's been taugh blah blah blah.. Our passing game is more than adequate for the scheme we run. One more thing, we just won a game last night throwing the ball 25-30 times, 26 to be exact.
