The road network out of that part of Cobb County is so bad, it is only 16 miles as the crow flies to Alpharetta, but takes less time to get to GSU that is 26 miles away. Talk about stop light hell. So that means you get no Fulton, no Gwinnett, no Dekalb, no Clayton. You get Marietta north in Cobb, Cherokee, Bartow and Paulding is a toss up. West Georgia pulls a lot of students from there. And you really don't get from Marietta north in Cobb because East Cobb is higher income demographic. If those kids are getting accepted to college, they are going wherever they want.

I know you are looking at a map and saying oooooh that is Atlanta, but it really isn't. So what is advantageous about it's location?

What are you talking about? Folks in Alabama travel over three hours to get to UA and AU games. A lot of folks travel up from Tampa to attend FSU games. We are always talking about traveling to games.

Okay, let's compare.

downtown Birmingham to Tuscaloosa is about 50 miles
South Alabama is 7 miles from downtown Mobile,
University of Miami is actually in Coral Gables at is six miles from downtown Miami.

Now to answer your question.

KSU is in the Atlanta Metro Area.

Atlanta is a National Hub for the Airlines. Therefore, all flights go to Atlanta in the south and the nation making it easy for alumni of KSU and its opponents to get to games on the weekend. Plus the Atlanta area is a great tourist destination for football games.

So wait... you are comparing the travel patterns of fans from Auburn, Alabama & Florida State and applying them to Kennesaw? But wait... there is more. You are comparing a 6 mile & 7 mile distance to 20 plus mile distances in a metro area where all roads with the exception of I-285 lead into Atlanta. So it makes it impossible to go from say Kennesaw to Alpharetta that google will actually route you down 75 across 285 and up 400 as opposed to any road that attempts to go east-west?

Question. On any of your suggestions, have you ever stopped and gone, "wait you are right. I see your point. Maybe this isn't the best school for expansion?"

Yes, I am. You still don't make any sense.

Have you ever driven in Miami, Tampa and Birmingham let alone Tuscaloosa? All I am saying, is that KSU is in a place, with a growing enrollment and alumni base they may be benefecial to the Sun Belt.

1. Already a rival with Georgia State
2. Seems to have a heated lip battle with Ga Southern folks. Another rival for the attention of Georgia?
3. Many a Sun Belt alumni from all schools live, work and play in the area which is a plus.

So I guess, I have to ask you again. Why the hate for KSU?

Being in the right place at the right time.

Don't try to bail Panama out. I am asking for specifics, not snarky remarks. Enlighten us. What made Ga State worthy of an invite?

Not even trying to bail Panama out. The specifics are that when Georgia State was added to the Sun Belt, Georgia State was in a position to accept and was agreeable to the members of the Sun Belt at the time.

Why is any school added to any conference.
1. The conference is looking to add a new member.
2. New member is only added if they are ageeable to present members of that conference.

Georgia State was worthy because the members of the Sun Belt conference at that time decided that there program was worthy of an invite to join the conference.

It makes no difference if any of us thought they were worthy or not worthy because we were not the one making that decision.

okay, assuming 1.
My question is what is the criteria leading up to 2? What makes a team agreeable?

Location
Size
Academic proficiency
Athletic proficiency
Alumni

What?

Location Yes, the schools location has to fit with in the conference. This is abig reason that NMSU was not invited as a full conference member.

Size I do not believe the size of the school really weights into the decision as long as the school fits the other requirements.

Academic proficiency No idea except a big NO if the school is just a paper mill school.

Athletic proficiency Yes to the extent that the programs that they offer would benifit the conference.

Alumni To the extent of Alumni giving.

Yes. A little background on me:
1. Studied Geography at GSU
2. I've been a road warrior(a job that keeps me on the road for over half the year) for 10 years. Actually lived in Tampa for a while, and had to drive everywhere in that state for a year. Saying KSU will deliver Atlanta to the Sun Belt... (when there is a school already in Atlanta, anyway) is like saying FAU will deliver Miami from Boca Raton while there is a school in same conference in Miami.
3. Work with multi-million software platform that dissects an area by any and every socioeconomic demographic you can dream of. I then go to the places it dissects and figure out of the margin of error in the calculations and figure out if a national retail brand should go there.

So at the end of the day, between the Johnny Cash song, I've Been Everywhere, and the book/movie Up In The Air you get me.

Who other than you says so? Does anyone from Georgia State say they are a rival? We've played Alabama twice and have them on the schedule for a third game. I guess by this definition they are a rival.

Just because someone doesn't think it is a good idea to add KSU... doesn't make them a rival.

Yeah. Mostly Georgia State and Georgia Southern. Fancy that.

(10-22-2015 01:25 PM)FloridaJag Wrote:  So I guess, I have to ask you again. Why the hate for KSU?
Lets see. I don't think they add anything to conference that the conference isn't currently serving. They haven't matched opening day attendance numbers of 9,506 since. They have been at 8,300 the past two games. To use the Georgia State comparison. We didn't have a home game with attendance that low until after we had a 1 win season. So I don't think the program would survive a turn for the worse. They need to learn from our mistakes and get their feet fully under them. Otherwise, our attendance would look like sell outs if they had 3 seasons with 2 wins. So unless you plan to push for these guys for the next 10 years, I don't get the rush.

You just can't tell us that it is so hard to get to KSU, when we all know the driving conditions in downtown Atlanta.

Panama, I know Logic is a foreign concept to you, so I help you.

Example:

Enrollment: Georgia State-32,842; Kennesaw State-33,000

On campus housing: Georgia State-5,000; Kennesaw State -5,200

Number of Alumni: Georgia State -200,000 +; Kennesaw State- 100,000 +

Distance from Atlanta International: Georgia State-8.6 miles; Kennesaw State-32.7 miles

So, I ask again, what is the difference between Ga State and KSU?

so you made up some numbers? By the way our enrollment is now 55k. What is the difference? KSU as a school is where GSU and GS were in the early eighties. Not kidding at all. Nobody cares about KSU athletics. Their 8300 seat stadium has had empty seats for every home game in their first season which they had to push back twice because they didnt have enough interested people give enough money. We were building a football building before we even started our first season. Is KSU doing that? How will they pay to triple the size of their stadium? How will they pay for a football building? GS is trying to build and IPF and then expand their stadium more. GSU is buying a MLB ballpark. Are you kidding me? What is the difference between KSU and GSU? Besides them being two levels below us in the bOR and pulling 90% of their students from 4 counties in Georgia, oh nothing, Same school right..

Time waits for noone. Why are asking KSU to prove what Ga State could not and cannot do at the moment?

Not sure where you live in Florida butt pretty sure you're not only a dealer but also a user.

For that exact reason. The last thing you need is 2 schools in the largest college football media market in the SE trying to find their footing.

Kennesaw brings nothing new to the table. Frankly, we need another basketball presence in the conference. Kennesaw State in the 10 years they have been playing division 1 ball... 0 winning seasons. They have a winning percentage of .273 in those 10 years. In fact the past 3 seasons were .194, .111, and .097.

As for football, if it goes the way of GSU's first season as you have been comparing it, once there is enough film on these guys they will lose more in the 2nd half than they did the first half. State lost 3 out of the last 4 games. And trust me on this. I have some experience with this. One season does not a program make. Not to mention... they don't have an expansion plan for their stadium. And 8,300 a game isn't going to cut it if that is all you can drum up for your first season excitement. Again, it took a 1 win season before we dropped that low.

I dont care it Kennesaw want to go FBS or not. Has zero bearing on GSU. This city has 6M people. That is more than most states. But the fact is that KSU is ver very very far from FBS. They are trying to figure out the money equation for FCS much less what it takes to be FBS. And here is a secret FJ, everyone doesnt HAVE to be FBS.

But Panama.... It is our rival. We can't leave the uh... ummm.... Larry MacDonald trophy behind in the ummm.... uhhh.... Rush Hour Rivalry. I mean I know you couldn't have forgotten the last time we played in basketball. It was uhhh... Google don't fail me now... I remember it like it was yesterday. Yeah thats it. That win on January 2nd, 1989! They were NAIA then, but... Man the blood was boiling, wasn't it? This rivalry is hot. It is ok if you don't remember playing Kennesaw State University then man. After all, they were Kennesaw State College. That is probably why.

But hey! We'll always have baseball right? I mean we have been playing each other for decades... I mean... wait. They have only had a division 1 club for 9 seasons.

But yeah man. The rivalry. Gotta remember the rivalry.

Yes the rivalry...

Just hilarious a guy living in Florida telling us who our rivals. Ironically there IS an FCS school in Macon we have played about a bajillion times in Olympic sports.

Well, you are being a tad misleading. There won't be 55k Ga State students. The additional 20k are junior college students not officially Ga State students. And the Turner Field purchase is by no means a done deal.

KSU does have Fifth/Third bank as a pretty large sponsor if I remember correctly. not sure money is still an issue.

i'm also interested in who he thinks is a potential down the road addition in his very own sunshine state. i guarantee he's given it thought. isn't there a school in the panhandle? what about FGCU? western is playing in a hoops tourney there next month and i'm going to it. i can scope and scoop the campus for him if needed.

if he is appointed Expansion Czar i'm in for 5 bucks for this hat.

FGCU is poised to go, however, they are very young school. The stated goal is to wait until the alumni numbers grow. They are already at about 15,000 students and I believe degrees awarded are over 2,000 per. They should have over 30,000 young rabid alumni in about 3 more years. The last time I was down in Ft. Myers was about 5 years ago. I would very much like to get your frank impression of the campus.

UWF is in Pensacola is about 13,000 students. They hit the field next year. I would have picked them over Coastal. Pensacola is roughly 45 miles from Mobile, downtown to downtown.

UNF in Jacksonville is mystery. They should have started football 6 years ago.

Expansion Czar

I love ya, FJ, but put down the pipe. NO WAY does Troy or USA allow another FBS team in the Mobile media market into the SBC. Not EVER.

1 wut
2 wuuuuut
3 soooooo

You just can't tell us that it is so hard to get to KSU, when we all know the driving conditions in downtown Atlanta.

Panama, I know Logic is a foreign concept to you, so I help you.

Example:

Enrollment: Georgia State-32,842; Kennesaw State-33,000

On campus housing: Georgia State-5,000; Kennesaw State -5,200

Number of Alumni: Georgia State -200,000 +; Kennesaw State- 100,000 +

Distance from Atlanta International: Georgia State-8.6 miles; Kennesaw State-32.7 miles

http://myhousing.gsu.edu/residence-halls...y-commons/
http://www.kennesaw.edu/about.php

So, I ask again, what is the difference between Ga State and KSU?

I did not make up any numbers. Did you view the links?

Where did you get that Georgia State has 55k enrolled?

https://www.cappex.com/colleges/Georgia-...University

South Alabama does not have an on campus stadium. Neither does Georgia State. Ga State has been playing for 5 years without their own field. What is Ga State's average home attendance against non FCS schools?

You seem a little touchy about KSU. I did not say GSU and KSU are the same. I asked why KSU is not Worthy. You can't explain it to me. Then you give me this lame excuse because Atlanta is not big enough to host another FBS school. However, it is not even two miles between Ga Tech and Georgia State. That did not keep Georgia State from starting football and going FBS.

I remind you that Ga State's overall record at the moment is 12 wins and 49 losses. The FBS record is 3 and 27, 1 and 1 in the Sun Belt. So clearly, money does not mean success.

I see having KSU as member boosting Ga State.

It is funny to see Ga State and Ga Southern united against KSU.

I think you are scared of Kennesaw State. LOL 04-cheers

Does it take a unanimous vote in the affirmative to receive an invite to the conference?
