A few of the tidbits:

-- Speculating that RichRod will be the top candidate at VT if Beamer retires.

-- Rumor that Mack Brown has been lobbying for the Virginia job (which technically is not yet open).

-- "50% chance" that Holgorsen will be out at WVU.

-- Speculating that Kansas State may be boxed into letting Bill Snyder's son succeed him.

-- Listing Al Golden as one of the top candidates for the Rutgers job. (Seems unlikely.)

I'm more interested in only seeing Rhule's name up there three times. Is it because he's a product of Paterno and Sandusky?

I think there are PSU fans really hoping Franklin gets some calls and takes them. Rhule is totally what PSU is used to in terms of play style.

IMO that's because when sportswriters speculate about these things they limit coaches generally within their geographical area unless the coach has a known connection elsewhere. When Chris Petersen was at Boise State, he was on these speculation lists every year, and I think the media only connected him with Pac-12 jobs.

I don't think WVU can do better than Holgersen.

Rich Rod was on Phoenix Sports Radio in the morning and they specifically asked him about all the coaching vacancies opening up and what his thoughts were on that.

In all seriousness he should stay in AZ. That's not a bad gig.

The furthest he would go was something to the likes of "We recruit for the future, we plan for the future here."

He absolutely would not commit on air and it was pretty obvious. What I do know is that his daughter goes to school at Arizona so my thoughts were that he would probably stick around at least as long as it takes for her to graduate.

After that though? I definitely think Rich Rod is available.

Tucson....Miami....Tucson....Miami. Yeah, Rich Rods style is so absolutely perfect for the recruiting that Miami is capable of. They got the guys right now that are perfect for Rich Rod.

Hell, he may not even wait till his daughter graduates. He can most certainly pay for her out of state tuition should he move to Florida.

I live in Morgantown and I'm not ready to put Holgs on the "hot seat" yet... Not saying he doesn't leave, but I don't see WVU pulling the trigger...yet.

He'd have to go pretty much winless for the rest of the season for WVU to terminate. And if that happens he may want to enter Witness Protection first.

The seat is warm-ish right now. Everybody knew this stretch was going to be brutal.

I could never figure out what the state of Arizona did to deserve both D-Rod and Todd Graham.
Lucky I guess.

Any news on Illinois? With proximity to Chicago and St. Louis, why can't they have a real good team?

RE: Coaching Carousel
An interesting observation:
The Big 10 (14 teams total) already has 3 confirmed openings (Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota) with two more likely openings (Purdue and Rutgers) and at least two more programs with varying levels of discontent (Iowa, Indiana, and maybe Nebraska). Couple that with the coaching hires of LAST year (Harbaugh- Michigan, Franklin- Penn State, Riley- Nebraska, Chryst-Wisconsin) that means Mark Dantonio (Michigan State) is the senior Coach of the conference and the overwhelming majority of coaches in the B10 NEXT YEAR will have 2 years or less in the conference...

That's a lot of turn-over in a conference that used to be known for LONG coaching tenures.

On the other side of the same coin, schools and athletic programs may have seen the HUGE hires of Meyer, Harbaugh and Franklin and realized they need new, bigger and hungrier coaches in order to compete in the B1G. Couple that with OSU winning the inaugural CFP, and the stakes are incredibly high in the B1G. I'm actually not surprised to see so much coaching turnover in the B1G.

I don't think any of the 3 that you are saying has varying levels of discontent will be gone this year. Iowa is undefeated. Indiana doing ok for themselves this year, and Nebraska 1st year coach.

Also between those 3, Meyer, Dantonio, Franklin(this is year 2 for him), and Pat Fitzgerald- that would mean it's just half the coaches next year would either be in years 1 or 2 at their schools.

Every Big Ten school has plenty of TV money to spend. Maybe this is the year that programs like Illinois or Maryland spend some of that money to get a top-drawer head coach who can roll with the big boys.

What top-drawer head coach is going to go to Maryland or Illinois? If they are top-drawer, they already are making big bucks at a stronger program. They best they can hope for is a successful OC/DC or non-P5 head coach. And those are always a crap shoot.
