RE: Lines in the Sand (C-USA)- Week 7
Thursday, October 15
Western Kentucky @ North Texas - With Dan Carney out, can things get better for the Mean Green? Probably not right away. Hilltoppers roll.

Saturday, October 17
Marshall @ FAU - I suspect that this will be a close contest. Marshall seems to play better at home this season, but FAU also gives games away regularly. I think I'll go with the Herd.
FIU @ Middle Tennessee - I really want to pick FIU, but I have a gut feeling that the Blue Raiders are tired of losing and will finally break that bad streak.
LaTech @ Mississippi State - I remember watching the LT-Miss St. game in 2008. It was fun to watch. It won't be that way this weekend, I'm afraid.
Charlotte @ ODU - A battle of epic proportions, no doubt. ODU wins a close one at home against the newcomer 49ers.
UTSA @ Southern Miss - An angry USM squad takes their frustrations out on the Roadrunners.

WKU- It should be illegal to bet on UNT to cover the spread
Marshall- its closer than it should be because of offensive output
FIU- I believe in this team for some reason. UMass was a fluke
Tech- This is strictly a homer pick, I have not facts or rational explanation to back it up.
ODU- Experience counts
UTSA- They impressed me last week and USM faltered. USM will have to pick themselves up after Marshall debacle.

The last time Mississippi State won their conference, World War II was raging in Europe and East Asia. Louisiana Tech most recently won a conference title in 2011, while they were playing in the Western Athletic Conference. Louisiana Tech also has 3 Division 2 National Championships. Louisiana Tech has an impressive all time record of 586-442-39 (.567) and Mississippi State has a record of 536-560-39 (.489). Also, did you know that Louisiana Tech is the only team from a non-AQ conference to defeat the SEC champion in the BCS era as the real Bulldogs defeated Alabama 29-28 at Legion Field in 1999. In that same year, Mississippi State lost 19-7 to Alabama. In fact, Louisiana Tech has a winning record over Alabama and leads the series 3-2. Mississippi State's record against the Crimson Tide is not so impressive, sitting at 18-77-3. Also worth noting that Louisiana Tech has had more consensus All-Americans than Mississippi State.

I'll be at the FAU/Marshall game this week, so results will be posted a little later on Sunday. Good luck!

I'm really looking forward to the Charlotte @ ODU game as well.

My picks:

Western Kentucky @ North Texas; Expect a blow out unless the Tops get too cocky.
Marshall @ FAU; Scary game. Owls will be hungry.
FIU @ Middle Tennessee; expect a good game with Blue Raiders winning at home
LaTech @ Mississippi State; Expect a good battle, but cowbells will win out
Charlotte @ ODU; will be closer than you'd think it should be
UTSA @ Southern Miss; Eagles will soar again.
