Well, at least the UNTs weren't stupid enough to pay Portland State something like $425,000 for that ass-kickin' they received.

They have a beautiful stadium, nice campus and are in a great area but just can't get over the hump.

they are not so much a commuter school as they are a school with a student body that is not very gung ho on sports. the school is mostly liberal arts and so is the student body. they have struggled for years to be considered one of the "big boys" they have just not been able to put all the pieces in place. moving to the cusa has given them somewhat of a boost because they now have a few better known peers such as rice and utep and somiss etc. but they havent been able to translate that into onfield success.

You've got it backwards. MTSU was the huge jerks along with FIU.

That being said, CUSA is not that great of a league. They've got a couple good teams and a couple bad teams just like we do. Difference is their bad teams beat our bad teams.

I clearly remember UNT fans dogging App St before we joined the SBC on this board so I enjoyed seeing that score.

Really dude? When and how?

As I recall, stAte fans were happy to see the Florida schools leave as it was too long of a drive to Miami.

We were indeed. Saved the school a ton on travel. Our administration basically said that the minute we replaced you guys with App and Georgia Southern.

I honestly think other than WKU, the rest of CUSA is directly comparable to the Sun Belt.

La Tech vs. Georgia Southern
Marshall vs. App
stAte (with Fredi) vs. Rice
USA vs. Southern Miss
ULM vs. UTSA
ULL vs. FIU
Troy vs. MTSU
Texas St. vs. FAU
Idaho vs. UTEP
Georgia St. vs. ODU
NMSU vs. UNT

CUSA would be favored to win every game except UNT. CUSA isn't quite SBC bad yet but a couple of schools are trying to get that low.

First off CsCollis lets do it, I think a SBC CUSA showdown weekend would be fun and surprisingly competitive (I'll give you that Charlotte beat Georgia State but UNT and both F_U Schools have looked AWFUL this year)

second off, here's video evidence of the NT debacle...

Not according to Sagarin or FPI they wouldn't.

Ditto. For any team having a desire to make a move that would better suit them is a good thing. A few of the UNT posters did rub it in, but any school has their fair share of losers.

Only in fantasyland would CUSA be favored in all those games. Honestly, several of those would be pretty darn good games...and the bottom 3 or 4 would be pretty darn ugly games.

Transfers outnumber freshman 3:1...that's not idea for building school pride. Then again, the same thing could be said about UCF...

Yeah, it is laughably ill informed to claim CUSA would win all of those games. Looks like a toss up in almost all.

RE: OT: Portland State @ North Texas.
First of all, UNT is further proof of what I like to remind people. Membership in no G5 conference is a magic bullet. You can fail miserably or succeed greatly in any of the G5.

That said, UNT has been consistently bad for a long time. New stadium, 6 million people in the metro, in the heart of one of the top states in the nation for recruiting and struggling to win. What gives? SMU has underachieved given similar circumstances as well in recent years. I often wonder if being located in such a large metro is a huge hindrance. Going back to Steve Roberts, ASU has had lots of success recruiting head to head vs. UNT despite the vast differences between DFW and Jonesboro. Do recruits want more of a traditional college campus experience? Are some kids just overwhelmed at the thought of living in DFW at 18 yo? Is it the apathy of the metro?

Seriously, I don't know what the issue is but those are my best guesses. Take my team out of the comparison and I would rather my kids go to a boring little town like Ruston than go to school in Dallas their first time out of my house.

I think its more about how historically terrible UNT has been the last decade or so. For every Dallas recruit that wants to leave, there is one that wants to stay.

UNT's biggest issue is that there are several choices in the Metro Area for schools, so the kids that want the traditional campus experience can leave, and the inner city kids who want to stay can choose a better program just as close.

Hate that it happened to any G5 team (though I do enjoy when P5's lose handily to FCS squads).

I don't even like UNT, but I feel for them.
