Its a East vs West match up that will tell us a lot about each division. We get to find out how thing Marshall really is or if they are legit. We get to find out if USM is a top two team in the West. This is kinda like the WKU vs Rice last weekend. WE found out Rice wasn't as strong as they have been in previous years and that WKU is still doing very well without their top RB. In three weeks we will get another with Tech vs MTSU. There are a lot of these East-West matchups this season.

Tonight they are playing like a pretender. USM should win enough to get bowl elible but the west is Tech's to lose. WKU, MTSU and MU all have a legit chance in the east.

USM doesn't look terrible tonight. No one is afraid of Tech, west is wide open.

Looks like Marshall will be the only team to hold us under 15.

Mullens picked a bad time to have a subpar performance. Marshall's defense is making it harder for him but he is missing easy throws when not under pressure. He just underthrew Thompson on what should've been a TD after missing him for an easy TD on the previous possession.

I think USM looks better than last year and I thought they showed improvement over the prior year in our game last season. They are coming back but might be a year away from having a shot to win the conference.

I thought Southern Miss played a very good game. They were very much in it for the first half, then our defense took over. They are a team on the rise. I don't think there is any question of bowl eligibility for them. I see 7-5 by the end of the season, at least. Wins against UTSA (next week in Hattiesburg), UTEP, Charlotte, and ODU seal the deal, in all likelihood.

If they turn the ball over and give up big plays, they will be lucky to win 6. The talent level is much higher but needs some disapline to win.

they will be a force to be reckoned with next yr and are dangerous this yr.. score not indicative of talent differential.

I said in an earlier thread I was concerned with our coaching and it raised it's ugly head again tonight. All we can do is learn from our many mistakes and move on...
