I think the objective was to hang on to Hud until his work was done. It's not done, and the craptastic start to this season is not reason to make sweeping judgments in my opinion.

Similar things could be said about stAte and they pay much less and have more championships to show for it.
Or if they paid their coaches a million, maybe one of those championship coaches would have stayed.

Wouldn't have mattered if stAte was pay freeze and malzahn over a million. Auburn and ole miss would have still gotten him.

Just like if a P5 school really wanted Hud he would have been gone by now.

We are living the new American Dream I guess.

the problem is, based on current salaries of coaches in the SBC, and all the positives SS and his staff has achieved so far, its not debatable, they will have to find the money. As you said, we are living the American dream.

I will be shocked if Satterfield is still at App much longer. Think alot of teams will come calling

RE: Updated Sun Belt Football Coaches Salaries
I think its alittle early for P5 schools to come calling, just hasn't been a head coach long enough to put togeather a resume that would impress a larger school to take a chance on him, and he probably isn't going to make a lateral move to another G5 school. Apps "ace in the hole" was him and his wife, who also graduated from App, wanted to move back to NC to be closer to their families. However, loyalty can only go so far, if App doesn't make him a competitive offer, which for the record, I don't think they would do something that stupid, he probably would be walking out the door sooner, rather than later. The coach we should really be worried about leaving at the end of the season is our DC Nate Woody.

App gave Satterfield an opportunity he, more than likely, wouldn't have been given by anyone else. I'm sure as he continues to perform well his pay will be increased.

If he lives in downtown or Midtown-buckhead Atlanta that's only like 200k

I'm speaking more of "cost versus production" than what his standard of living is.

And I don't say that as a slam on Georgia State, I say that in I was genuinely surprised. I just assumed they kept the coaching salary low as they were building up, so the results weren't so... well received.

RE: Updated Sun Belt Football Coaches Salaries
Scott's story is pretty special, he's a walk-on QB whose athletic skill wouldn't rank in the top 10 (he may say top 20) of App QB's, but worked his way into the starting role. In 1995 he went 11-0. He couldn't throw, couldn't run, but he knew how to win. Then he spent 10+ years as an assistant and played a huge part in the FCS run and adopting the spread attack.

Scott didn't leave App the for the money, he left because Cobb told him he wouldn't likely get the head coaching job at App if he didn't have FBS OC experience.

I'm not naive enough to believe he wouldn't take a multi-million offer, but I think you'll see him stay at App longer than a couple more years.

It will be a sad day if Scott leaves, as he's a better person than he is a coach and I think he's a heck of a coach.

RE: Updated Sun Belt Football Coaches Salaries
honestly, you just don't know with coaches, they seem to be people who always believe the grass is always greener on the other side. I think if we compensate SS fairly within the next year, and we show him we are committed to upgrading the facilities, I think the odds are good he stays for atleast 2 or 3 more years, but again with coaches, you never can be really sure on what they are going to do.

Not 100% sure but I believe Scott gives up some salary $'s to pay his assistants more. Scott and his wife (who is from Western NC) love App as well as living and raising their kids in Boone. I don't think he's the type of guy who has to be the highest paid in the league, but he needs to be in the upper half of the pack. This is just my .02 but its time App took a serious look at pairing down the size of our department. No rational argument can be made for sponsoring 18 sports.

agree, as much as I hate to see programs cut, 18 is just too many, I have no idea what Gillian's plans are, but you have to think cutting some nonrevenue programs has been seriously considered. As far as Scott, I also believe he and his family really love App, and living in Boone, that's why I cant see him leaving to take a job at another mid major, even if they were to pay him more.
