A team that finished 6th in the league last year (UTSA), had an RPI of 204 and enters the season without a single pre-season All-Conference selection is NOT going to win this conference. Some coach couldn't bear to vote for MT/WKU to run the league again.

UTSA was tied for 4th last season at 11-7 in C-USA play. Got a personal grudge against their coach?

I was thinking the same thing...and.....maybe I missed it but how does one find out how each coach voted?

I understand why Olivia Jones was tabbed Preseason POY. But I will be surprised if she finishes the season with that title. She may not finish with a high enough scoring average to win the postseason award, but I think Kendall Noble is the best player in the league.

What is Brandi Wingate doing on this list? She didn't rank among the statistical leaders in scoring, rebounding, assists OR steals. The ONLY thing she did well last year was FG%. I understand the goal of spreading some preseason love around, but give me a break. Ty Petty from MT, Ali Gorrell from FAU, Taylor Shade from FIU and Chelsee Black from UAB would have each been a better choice than Wingate.

Oops. I somehow saw 12th in scoring offense from one chart and got that stuck in my head. STUPID mistake that really undercuts my first reaction. I'll edit my first post.

And clearly the "joke" is on me. Based upon my stupid fixation on 12th in conference ranking for SCORING instead of STANDING, I made the only logical assumption that the UTSA coach voted his team #1 for motivation. Instead, it was probably some other coach who couldn't bring himself/herself to pick MT/WKU to run the league again who picked UTSA. The bigger point remains, the Road Runners aren't winning the conference.

You can't find out who voted for whom. But only the 12th place coach could be stupid enough to vote his team #1. Too bad I made the INCREDIBLY STUPID mixup with UTSA scoring offense rankings (12th) with league standings (6th). Glad to see that the Rice coach didn't vote herself #1.

UNT has had some excellent teams in the past.

Will they ever come back? In fact, their entire athletic program has been down.Hope they at least get back to a respectable level.Kills RPI for the league.Last year-UNT-328-RPI.

Coaches and SIDs cant vote for their own team. Only the media rep for that school can vote for his own.
utsa was extremly tough down the stretch this year and were very young.
ODU being voted that high is a absolute joke.
If i were voting i would have to pick utep at no 1. They had their 2 best players sitting out a year ago. One because of academics and one for propagating future miners. They are both back.

One good thing about our schedule for MT - we have pretty much all the "tough" teams at home... USM comes to Murfreesboro again! Go Blue!

Plan on being more into women's hoops this year. My wife's cousin Kelsey is a freshman on Marshall's team.

ODU finished 4th last season and returns their All-Conference player in Jennie Simms. They did lose 3 of their top 5 players last year though. So 2nd does seem high.

As to UTEP, I'd be worried about relying on a college player returning to form after a baby. MT has had little success with this example as two players NEVER returned to pre-child form and the third sat out four years before returning to basketball. WNBA players obviously make the transition, but that is an apples-oranges comparison. And as to a player returning after a year long suspension, that too is asking a lot. You have to TRUST a player to have changed and you have to allow for altered team chemistry. Again, MT didn't have a lot of success with that type of player last year.

We have a great home OOC schedule this year. Hosting Virginia, Kentucky, and Ole Miss as headline teams. I've hit high hopes for what we will be able to do.

Someone mentioned K. Noble. We are lucky to have her. However, she isn't going to blow anyone away with numbers. She is just really, really good at both ends of the floor. Well deserved preseason award for her. She is going to have to be the leader this year.

We return everyone except Cason from last years team. Parker was suspended for most of the year after her issues, and Cason was the backup point guard. We should be as good if not much better than last years team. USM seems to be in a similar situation.

Thats how we have to schedule if we ever become more than a one bid league.

Southern Miss has a possible matchup with Baylor in the wnit 2nd round. We have ole miss and state long term home and home. Ole miss in hb this year and at state.
We play North carolina at myrtle beach sc.

in Dec 16 we play in the preseason event in Puerto rico.
