OT: Threat Made to EKU Campus; Classes Cancelled, Thursday Home Game Moved
I dunno what has gotten into people, but it seems to be a disturbing trend that's lately been picking up steam

On top of EKU, in Arkansas the University of Central Arkansas also received multiple threats through the app, Yik Yak

People are so much more wreckless behind the cloak of a computer screen or phone...or (after reading the article) in this case the classic bathroom stall. The state of affairs we live in today...hope everything turns out to be a stupid prank

Just happened to TXST on Monday/Tuesday. Someone went on the same website as the Oregon shooter and made the same posts as he had but towards TXST. (a college campus near Austin, not in Austin)

They didn't close it down, though, which I found unsettling.

If you react to every copycat threat that is going to be made then we'd just be in mass chaos. We have to trust that our universities have adequate information and personnel that will keep our students safe...and they do

Just saw trending that Southern Oregon University has closed down after a note was found which directed a threat to the campus

CRAZY crazy how people are picking this trend up for attention

It's because we're in Texas... Most folks are armed.

Some crazy guy comes in wanting to shoot up the campus, he'll be shot.

Yeah, you would have to be crazy to try something like that in Texas.

The only thing that will stop this is to prosecute threat makers every time this happens. Our justice system is too discriminatory, treat them all the same. If it's real send them to jail if it's a prank make them pay for the man hour used to investigate.

Both suggestions are great but there are too many opponents who will petition against it.

Remember we live in a "hug me first" society.

RE: OT: Threat Made to EKU Campus; Classes Cancelled, Thursday Home Game Moved
In North Carolina, I have seen more people openly carrying guns on their hips. I never used to see this but once a week or so I'll see someone with a "deterrent" holstered for all to see. While I don't feel particularly good about that, if I were to be in a public place when a nut case decides that it's time for their perceived retribution, it would be nice to have people there who have the means to end it.

As long as there is an outlet or way to make threats, people will, and some of them will actually end up happening. The sad state of the things people have access to nowadays. Gun's aren't the problem, access to any and all information is. That's the difference between the pre-internet day's and now.

Yeah we are all safer for it. Just ask this guy from Texas, a carjacking victim who was shot in the head by an armed civilian trying to be a hero.

Never mind that Studies show that in a situation with an active shooter, an armed civilian is much more likely to injure themselves or innocents than to actually resolve the crisis.

It's not just colleges and universities that are facing threats like these. I teach high school and just a few weeks ago we had a vague online threat made the day before something was "suppose" to happen. Our school had increased security presence the entire day and we were officially on "lock-down" all day. Many parents kept their kids at home and questioned why we didn't close school. If we close school every time someone makes a threat, the ones that make the threats will learn they can control us. It's no different than after the 9/11 attacks. American's resolved to not let terrorism control and interrupt our daily lives. Otherwise the terrorists win.

The Sheeple's "Studies" underestimate the Sheepdog, some of us have been trained, some of us practice, some of us can put steel on target (that's what we call Gun Control), I will not open carry, why advertise, I don't want the perp to know I'm armed until it's too late for him, there will be no warning shots, no stop or I'll shoot. I'd rather die trying than be executed, I like my chances, way better than no action at all.
