RE: Week 5 Massey Ratings
So it seems we have a couple of teams really high. A couple low. And then a bunch of middle of the pack.

RE: Week 5 Massey Ratings
I find it funny they have USA ahead of A-State but have A-State favored to win at USA.

Like 24/7 recruiting they have really shifted heir focus to their composite rankings, to give then an edge over the more widely regarded Sagarin ratings.

RE: Week 5 Massey Ratings
Looking at Sagarin it occurred to me that one good thing for A-State fans is the 'system' is about swing their way in all these rankings.

It is not just that you get back your qb, but the rankings thus far were generated with a schedule Sagarin ranks as #53 and without the player many felt would be a strong candidate for offensive POY. For comparison GaSo and AppSt had schedules ranked #126 and # 192 respectively according to Sagarin.

As a result your rankings should take a dramatic turn for the better, if your qb can perform anywhere close to expectations, because the rest of the year your team will play a schedule that is similar to AppSt and GaSo as far as schedule strength, so scoring points, and stopping teams from scoring is going to be a lot easier.

Got this from HowlYes.com about the remaing schedules:

Noticed that very nice addition. Adding GaSo, AppSt and Coastal is a big coup for the SBC, that should pay bid dividends going forward. Problem is there are FCS ranked higher than every SBC team and that should not be.

The SBC is still seen by many as a glorified FCS league disguised as FBS.

Can't speak for the other SBC teams because I'm not sure what they all have going on but if A-State can get some stability in their coaching staff, they have done enough in the other areas recently in upgrading their programs to be a solid FBS program going forward. Top 10-15 G5 easily.

The system favors winning teams. Look at Idaho, we're ranked 158th, we beat 147 Wofford but they're still ahead of us because they beat some other FCS teams. It's impossible to create a universal formula that compares apples to oranges.

When the Jags were in the transition from FCS to FBS, we were ranked ahead of almost all the SBC as well while playing a weaker schedule. I take Sagarin with a big grain of salt.

I don't understand how USA is ranked that much lower than Arkansas State either. Troy hasn't won much because they have played a relatively tough schedule, the same goes with Arkansas State, but USA did win an out of conference game against an FBS team.

RE: Week 5 Massey Ratings
Did check back with the Massey Ratings, and they do have A-State slightly ahead of USA , which seemed to make more sense, since they had them as probable winners in their match-up.

Again good luck the rest of the year.
