I think FAU will put up a fight, but I think Rice is more likely to get the job done.

This will certainly be a close and well fought game. Both teams have a lot to prove. The loser will likely not make it into the bowl season.
Rice has to get over last weekend's drubbing and FAU staff needs to end the love affair with Quez.

I would really like to make Rice a permanent crossover game for FAU. Call it the "Best of the Nest" "Talon Bowl" whatever you want but when both Mascots are owls that opens it up to some interesting story telling and possible rivalry.

That this game looks to be a struggle for Rice after our supposed upward climb under our current coach is disappointing.
As for FAU, they can see they have a real chance to make some noise with this game if they've been watching and video of our season so far.
What kind of passing threats does FAU have? Can they consistently get the ball over to a few receivers? If the answer is yes, then Rice will have another difficult day to try to pull out a win. Note this is the only time this season Rice will leave the State of Texas for a football game. Hope the weather is nice, at least! Go Owls!

The main question we need to ask is who FAU's QB for the Rice game will be.
The FAU staff seems to be enamored with fifth-year senior Jaquez Johnson (who you may remember from 2013 when Rice barely escaped with a W). Quez is not a strong passer but he is a decent and very physical running threat. Rice should be familiar with this kind of a QB. He is not all that much of a passing threat.
If FAU goes with his back-up, redshirt freshman Jason Driskell (the borther of LaTech's Driskell), Rice would be facing a very competent QB, who had, in his only start, thrown for nearly 400 yards against Buffalo. Driskell also torched University of Miami's secondary when he entered in relief of Quez in the first quarter of that game. He seems to be a more than competent passer with a few very decent and reliable targets.
Also, Rice needs to keep in mind that FAU's O-line is much improved. Because of it, FAU is able to move the ball at will. FAU has struggled holding on to the ball during its ground attack but we keep pursuing it at all costs, despite our own difficulties.

Well, then it's pretty easy--go with Driskell and you'll be off to the races. If we can't keep up with your scoring (we haven't so far) you'll win.

Alas, even if this were true, FAU's staff will, most likely, still go with Quez.

Playing the senior over the freshman. I have heard this complaint somewhere before.

RE: The OWL BROWL: Rice at FAU gameday thread
For a while there it seemed that FAU is in trouble for being unable to stop Rice. Now, after a timely stop and a 94-yard TD throw, it is 14-14 midway through 2nd quarter.

Halftime. 14-14. Owl deadlock.
P.S. The 94-yard TD turns out to be the longest offensive play for FAU from the line of scrimmage in our 15-year football-playing history.

Joseph FG. FAU up 17-14. Aside from that 94-yard pass, both teams are putting together long sustained drives. Good offensive plays. Defenses are struggling.

RE: The OWL BROWL: Rice at FAU gameday thread
Rice blocks a punt, has a 1st down in the red zone, and had a missed FG (their second of the game) for their trouble. Kinda lucky for us.
