Lines in the Sand (C-USA)- Week 6
Is it just me, or does this season seem to be flying by? The big question on everyone's mind is whether the other 40+ pickers who play this game regularly can stop the high-flying performance of WKUFan518 who is proving to be a domineering "picker" so far this year.

Still lots of football to be played however, and unpredictable conference play is the mainstay for the balance of the season, for the most part. (ODU and Charlotte are off this week.) Here's this week's schedule, and there are some VERY interesting match-ups this week that will test out our "pickers":

Friday, October 9
Southern Miss @ Marshall; 7:00 pm, ET; CBSSN

Saturday, October 10
UTEP @ FIU; 12:00 pm, ET; ASN
Middle Tennessee @ Western Kentucky; 12:00 pm, ET; FSN (TBA)
Rice @ FAU; 2:30 pm, ET; FCS, ESPN (Palm Beach)
Portland State @ North Texas; 5:00 pm, ET; NO Scheduled TV
LaTech @ UTSA; 7:00 pm, ET; ASN

RE: Lines in the Sand (C-USA)- Week 6
This is a very interesting week with some dynamite match-ups that will help determine the final outcome in each division. Here are my straight up picks:

Southern Miss @ Marshall - I honestly don't know who will win this game. Homer pick, but with limited confidence.
UTEP @ FIU - Although the Panthers really messed me up last week, UTEP has not shown me much.
Middle Tennessee @ Western Kentucky - Toppers until they tell me differently. They are on a roll.
Rice @ FAU - I don't think the Boca Owls are as bad as their record. At home they can be VERY tough.
Portland State @ North Texas - While I have very little confidence in North Texas, I can't pick even a good FCS team going in.
LaTech @ UTSA - Will be a barn-burner I suspect, but Dawgs will win.

Portland State @ North Texas; 5:00 pm, ET; NO Scheduled TV
LaTech @ UTSA; 7:00 pm, ET; ASN

I'm going with the following:
USM will beat MU, with or without rockhead.
FIU
WKU
Rice
NT barely
La Tech

RE: Lines in the Sand (C-USA)- Week 6
Southern Miss @ Marshall It's hard to win in Huntington. It's going to be a dogfight, but I think the Herd pulls it out in the end 34-24.

UTEP @ FIU UTEP hasn't shown up yet. Disappointing as I thought they could compete in the west. FIU wins going away 42-14.

Middle Tennessee @ Western Kentucky Western is the class of the conference. Last week I thought this would have been the game of the week, but Western is much better than I thought they were, and Middle not so much. WKU continues to dominate 49-24.

Rice @ FAU Rice takes their frustrations out on a very inconsistent FAU team, 38-21.

Portland State @ North Texas Please let me be right, 42-31.

LaTech @ UTSA The Roadrunners finally put it all together last week, and could pull off the upset against the BUlldogs. But I see Tech winning somewhat uncomfortably, 27-21

Going with Southern Miss on this one, Marshall has done nothing impressive this year so far and hasn't played the competition that Southern Miss has played.

Should be an interesting week.

I will say USM beats us with their prolific O. Out defense is very good but our offense won't be able to keep pace.
WKU will beat MT. Disappointed the Raiders didn't beat Vandy.

RE: Lines in the Sand (C-USA)- Week 6
Southern Miss @ Marshall
UTEP @ FIU
Middle Tennessee @ Western Kentucky - I know home field doesn't mean much in this rivalry but I think WKU is the better team.
Rice @ FAU = the Owls from Houston take this one.
Portland State @ North Texas - portland gets their second FBS win of the season.
LaTech @ UTSA

Going for some upsets in an attempt to catch 118.

RE: Lines in the Sand (C-USA)- Week 6
Southern Miss @ Marshall; 7:00 pm, ET; CBSSN....Since my Golden Eagles can't seem to kick a field goal anymore, I will pick us by 4....Southern Miss 28, Marshall 24.

UTEP @ FIU; 12:00 pm, ET; ASN...FIU disappointed, but they rebound to win this week 17-14...

Middle Tennessee @ Western Kentucky; 12:00 pm, ET; FSN (TBA)...League favorite wins by three scores....49-28

Rice @ FAU; 2:30 pm, ET; FCS, ESPN (Palm Beach)..The Rice Owls rebound and win by 3....27-24

Portland State @ North Texas; 5:00 pm, ET; NO Scheduled TV...probably the last chance for a Mean Green win....28-17

LaTech @ UTSA; 7:00 pm, ET; ASN....Roadrunners put a scare into the Bulldogs, but Tech wins 21-14...

Southern Miss
UTEP
WKU
Rice
NT
UTSA

Roadrunners played their old WAC mates tight last year and all games have been chippy. It's safe to say this one has been circled on the calendar for a while. 27-21 UTSA.

if North Texas is playing at their best, they'll win on Saturday. If they're not, they'll lose.

My prediction: there won't be any non-Marshall fan pick Marshall over USM.

In Hattiesburg I'd be tempted to go with USM. But not picking against Marshall at the Joan.

RE: Lines in the Sand (C-USA)- Week 6
The real question is will this be La. Tech's WTF week?

The USM Marshall game is interesting on many levels. It's a strength on strength game. It's usm's 14 ranked passing offense against our 19 ranked passing defense. It's our 4th ranked pass efficiency defense against a QB with the 14th highest efficiency rating. As they say, something has to give. In a game like that it is usually about who covers their weakness the best. I do give Marshall an pretty heavy edge in special teams. Our KR #13, yours #71, our FG kicker is 6 for 6, yours is 3 for 5, net punting we're 29th and you're 76th. I'd take Marshall by a FG, but won't be surprised if we lose.

Friday, October 9
Southern Miss @ Marshall; 7:00 pm, ET; CBSSN-this game is a toss up really, but will go with home team by 3

Saturday, October 10
UTEP @ FIU; 12:00 pm, ET; ASN-Last season proving to be a fluke at this point for UTEP
Middle Tennessee @ Western Kentucky; 12:00 pm, ET; FSN (TBA)-guarantee something crazy goes down in this one
Rice @ FAU; 2:30 pm, ET; FCS, ESPN (Palm Beach)-now this is a toss up, both teams playing poorly, so who knows
Portland State @ North Texas; 5:00 pm, ET; NO Scheduled TV-by 30, North Texas is bad this season
LaTech @ UTSA; 7:00 pm, ET; ASN-would not shock me if this one was an upset, I see La. TEch sweating most of the game, but pulls it out in the end..

Agreed this week could be full of surprises...
