RE: Bowl Eligibility

The NCAA changed the rule that of a 6-6 team that goes to a Conference Championship Game will not be penalized for a loss that puts them at a losing record. If there are not enough bowl teams, 5-7 teams become eligible and the pecking order is based on the highest APR team. I am not sure, but I do believe if a Transition Team is bowl eligible, IE like Ga Southern last year, they would be selected above the 5-7 team.

I think the pecking order is:

1. 7-5 and better teams
2. 6-6 teams with no more than 1 FCS victory
3. 6-6 teams with 2 FCS victories
4. 6-7 Hawaii or teams that play 13 games due to playing at Hawaii
5. 6-6 transitioning teams
6. 5-7 teams ranked by APR

RE: Bowl Eligibility
Isn't a good thing that we are worrying about filling all our bowls instead of worrying who is gonna be left out?

RE: Bowl Eligibility
While it would look better for the conference to have most if not every school in the bottom half with 3 or 4 wins. It will really hurt us when it comes to bowls. For CUSA to fill all of the slots we need Charlotte, ODU and UNT to not win over 1 game each. Then FIU or FAU to only win 2 at most with the other 6 and the same in the West for USTA and UTEP

other words...bottom feeders everyone beats up on and nothing against any of the schools I named...just think it's more likely for them this year.

RE: Bowl Eligibility (After week 6)
Here's an updated look:

Locks to get eligible:
WKU and Marshall at 5-1
LaTech at 4-2

Probables to get eligible:
Rice and So. Miss at 3-3 (Favorable schedules)

Possible to get eligible:
FIU at 3-3 (tougher remaining schedule)

Need help to get eligible:
All the current 2 win teams (although both ODU and Charlotte are longshots, IMHO)

No hope to get eligible:
UTSA at 1-5, NT at 0-5 and FAU at 1-4 (not enough winnable games left)

RE: Bowl Eligibility
If La Tech wins the conference, they're going to select HOD Bowl against the 6-6 Big 12 team...
If Marshall wins the conference, they're likely going to select the Miami Beach Bowl this year...

What would WKU's mindset be if they win the league? Would they choose the 6-6 Big 12 team in Dallas, or try to trade out and go play a potential MAC champion (say a ranked Toledo?) in the Bahamas again or a SunBelt champ in New Orleans, or would they take one of the Florida AAC matchup? I don't know the WKU psyche well enough to know what they would do.

For me, I would hope that we would go play the highest ranked team we could get, irregardless of which Bowl it was! Although I do hope we stay within the continental US for selfish reasons, such as, I want to go!! 04-rock

Bowl Eligibility
There is no pecking order. There is no rhyme or reason. It comes down to who a bowl wants. WKU (and others) have sat at home 7-5 while 6-6 teams go. Marketability and tickets sold. That gets you in.

RE: Bowl Eligibility
The C-USA conference champion gets to pick their bowl (in theory). If WKU wins, you'd pick your poison. Would you all go to Florida, New Orleans, go play the P5 matchup in Dallas, or go back to Bahamas if the MAC champ was there?

UTSA's remaining schedule is the softest around.

@ USM
ODU
@Charlotte
North Texas
@ Rice
MT

USM, Rice, and MT are all winnable games

ODU, Charlotte, North Texas we should be the favorite.

Long shot but don't count UTSA out yet.

That just gets you to 4 wins. Sorry, but I don't see you winning 2 out of 3 against Muts, Rice and USM.

RE: Bowl Eligibility
Western will take the bowl we can sell more tickets for...

that will be Fla

Cant see Western playing out of the country again for the 2nd year in a row. It would be a slap in the face to our fans. Can't see Western taking a 3rd game in Texas and selling 500-1000 tickets. Western fans travel to Fla better than we travel to any place that's not in a short drive. If Western can get 500-700 for a regular season game at FAU/FIU a Fla bowl would give us the best chance to sell tickets. If not Fla maybe New Orleans

I believe the Rice/UTSA game is in San Antonio. I'm thinking about going if I still care about our season by then.

WKU has a lot of alumni in Tampa area, so yes I am sure Florida would be your answer if we had to choose..

The NO bowl will have someone except ULaLa. I don't see WKU wanting to play a SBC team if they get a choice. If WKU played in Dallas, I would expect a few Tech fans will show up for support. I already plan to got the HOD bowl no matter who's playing. Of course I hope it's Tech.

I think Tech gets Dallas or NOB, Rice might get HOD. WKU will want a Florida bowl unless some fancy bowl trading gets them somewhere closer (like Nashville, Memphis, or Birmingham).

RE: Bowl Eligibility
I think Tech is going to HOD no matter what as long as they win the West. WKU and Marshall would both rather play a upper tier AAC school than a 6-6 Big 12 team. If say WKU were to win the conference then it would benefit them much more to play Cincinnati or Memphis in Miami or St. Peterburg than Texas Tech or Texas. It would benefit Tech greatly to play a middling Big-12 team especially from Texas.

RE: Bowl Eligibility
Let me preface this by saying this is more of a hypothetical than realistic.

Looking at UTEP's schedule.....

LT and USM are losses. We might as well not even play those two.

But, then we have FAU, ODU, UNT, and Rice. Is it likely we go 4-0 in those games? Oh hell no. Probable? No. Possible? Probably not. But, is it as a ludicrously ridiculous thought as it should be for a team that's probably one of the 5 worst teams in the nation that has played as poorly as we have so far? Maybe not.

I know that realistically we'd be lucky to split those 4. The sad thing is that if we were just a halfway competent team, we'd still have at least a little bit of a shot. But, I know we're not.
