RE: Which Sun Belt football team has been the biggest disappoint so far this year?
I don't think Georgia State is a disappointment so far because really... And I don't say this to kick the team when it's down, but were there really expectations of being 3-1 at this point, and they blew two games? Not to me. I figured them to be best case 2-2, so they fell a bit.

The Cajuns record surprised me, and I think it's because I didn't really appreciate the quality that Broadway brought. Don't get me wrong, I knew he was very good, I just didn't think he was "the glue".

Texas State has been a letdown to me as well. But as a fan, I typically have higher expectations for my team than others. So not sure if that counts.

stAte's performance thus far in the season has been a bit of a letdown as well.

Georgia Southern hasn't seemed as dominant as they did last year, but I attribute that to them not having their QB first two games, and them trying to get the groove back.

Closer? Before the Tech game, I'd have said that we should have easily beaten Akron. I'm not sure anyone in the Belt is as good as LaTech right now.

You've won 9 games four years in a row. Your supposed to be the "class of the conference." Y'all lost to Akron by 21 at home and 29 to Louisiana Tech. It's LT not LSU. Jeff Driskell is their QB. It's not that you lost, it's how you lost. It should at least be competitive, within 2 TDs. If the top four programs in the conference (GS, App, stAte, and ULL) don't pull their weight, you can't expect the rest to. 07-coffee3

I wasn't making excuses. LaTech had a nationally ranked team in 2012, a crappy one in 2013 under a new head coach, a good one last year that beat a P5 in a bowl game, and obviously another very good team this year.

Our quarterbacking issues are greater than I thought they'd be. Losing a 3 year starter has proven to be what it usually is.......tough. I actually thought we might be entering the season with a good problem to have......too much talent at qb in the form of two of them. I was obviously wrong. Our offense sucks, regardless of the reason, we're not getting it done.

And I still stand by my original comment. I suspect every team in this conference would be hard-pressed to pull out a W against LaTech this year. They've got a pile of good athletes, come at your from many different directions, and are a well-coached team.

I'd like nothing more than another 9 win season, to be considered the class of the conference again, and go to another bowl game. But right now we can't find our ass with both hands.

Bingo! For all the whining by some Cajun fans about how lousy Broadway's passing game was, at least when we got into the red zone, he pushed the team into the endzone more times than not. Yeah, we've lost some big players up front, but everyone does every year. Last year's team just played with much more confidence and I mostly attribute that to the leadership and play of the quarterback.

la tech has a very good team. their running back is a freaking stud. driskell was very tough against us. their best receiver (#1) had some thuggish behaviour but he was very good as well. though we beat them by 3 it was a 10 point game most of the way. they threw a hail mary at the end that pulled it within 3. they should have beaten kansas state. i don't know if belt teams would struggle or not but they are a damn good team.

RE: Which Sun Belt football team has been the biggest disappoint so far this year?
I will agree that ULL is biggest disappointment. Losing big to Akron and losing big to La Tech. I figured that the Cajuns were going to go to the New Orleans bowl before the season started.

I have some disappointments with the Jags this year. Our coverage team needs lots of work, We have keep pooch kicking the kickoffs and they still run after the getting that. We get way too many penalties. Our WRs have been dropping passes the few seasons. Coaches still problems with time management. Last night with the lead and 6 minutes left on the clock. We are hiking the ball with 20+ seconds left on the play clock. We should have put Troy away in the first half, and we nearly gave the game away to them in the 2nd half.

Great points, ALL. As for the "D", I'd like to see some solid fundamentals, too. Way too many boneheaded mistakes, missed tackles and other stuff -- again, just FUNDAMENTALS. I love Coach Joey Jones but his clock management skills have been the same since season #1 - sub-par - and it's cost us many games in the last few moments. I'd love to see this improve. Not sure I ever will.

Last, I'd like to see us STOP(!) leaving so damned many points on the field. How many times are we going to go for it on 4th when we're in FG range just to come away with ZERO points when we have a FG kicker who can hit from 50 yards? Every game this year to date we have done just that. I don't get it.

I've told you guys before. You need to think UAB for your goals. You won't be Houston, UCF, USF, or even Temple. Im fuzzy with numbers but I do believe over 23,000 undergraduates attend gsu so am I missing something. People go to different schools for different reasons.

LOL...Kennesaw has such a following that they have no money donors and had to kick their startup back by 2 years. They play in an 8300 seat soccer stadium that does not sell out. How many times in our history have we sold less than 8300 tickets even with Miles' craptastic 2-26 show. You're comparing us to Mercer in Macon? Who cares? They do not even register in Atlanta unless you are alumni (and if you are making it to Macon from Atlanta in 45 minutes you are driving 120 MPH).

Here is the reality, Georgia State is a national research university that keeps getting national awards for access and retention of students. We have close to 10k students living on or around campus. The BOR gave our President, along with UGA's and GT's, a salary raise to over $1M per year so that they can keep the CEOs of their most valued properties in place until they retire. Meanwhile GS's President took a better job at another university within the University System. We have 26k undergrads now and will have 48k undergrads next year. So they go to Southern and Kennesaw because guess what, its a city 6M and we cant take them all! Once the Ted renovation is complete you will see 25k students living downtown.

A sample of our following can be seen in what happened in this city last year when we made the tournament. People lost their ever loving minds and local media celebrities all of a sudden came out as Panthers.

Congrats to GS for doing one thing correctly. You run an offense few can stop. But the reality is that people at the city and state level are moving heaven and earth to hand us a MLB ballpark on a silver platter. The UAB comparisom does not hold water because the BOR isnt trying to stop us. In fact the Chancellor is...you guessed it..a Panther.

So yeah, Miles may have been a mistake but then again once upon a time we sucked at basketball. 04-cheers

Coastal Carolina has done the best job so far, could probably give all of us a loss or at least a good game.

It won't hold any water when they lose to a team with the same depth issues on October 22.

Right because posting about the perceived mission of the school is relevant. But answering that post is not. Carry on.

I could be wrong, but I think he was speaking tongue-in-cheek because so many Sun Belt posters told us that prior to our move. Georgia Southern fans certainly understand the top of FCS is as good or better than the lower to mid FBS teams...

Coastal could compete in the Sun Belt this year.

No. Most of us think we are bad because we are bad! Frustrating football to watch right now. And not sure if will get much better this season. That said, I do think the Cajuns will win some games; but going to a bowl again shouldn't be a topic of discussion for us until we can prove we deserve consideration. You guys were 1-3 OOC last season and things still turned out OK but you do look a little rough around the edges this year. After looking at your schedule I think it is a good chance ULL loses at least 2 more games but if you can pull it together to go 7-5 and back to the NOB that wouldn't be too bad for a rebuilding year.

Things can change fast with the correct hire. In a city you must win. period. When my sister was at Houston mid 90s nobody went to games. The they turned it around. Justin Fuente inherited 70 scholarship player or less and Liberty Bowl crowds that look like ours. They re now Top 25 and averaging 45k a game. Temple! Wow. So a turnaround can happen quickly even for an urban school

I've told you guys before. You need to think UAB for your goals. You won't be Houston, UCF, USF, or even Temple. You are the 4th FBS team in a state where 2 FCS startups have a bigger following and the 1 and 2 FBS are around the corner and 45 minutes away. Ga State is a SCHOOL intended to make it convenient for Atlanta professionals to earn graduate degrees. Why do you think 10,000 Metro kids go to Ga Southern for undergrad and another 25,000 who can't go to Southern go to Kennesaw St?

04-cheers

This is the whole reason people hate GAST. You just got your a** kicked by liberty, so shut up and sit down. Give you a hint- no one cares about research when talking about football.
