How about you peeps do me a favor?

Kick our team, coaching staff, and fans around all you wish.

But please lay off the ULaLa, ULlol, Lafayette, etc. That sort of crap has caused all sorts of problems here in the past and until the last couple of weeks I've not seen much of it fortunately. How about we just concentrate on commenting on the weaknesses and suckiness of our play without sidetracking threads into name arguments.

Cajuns, ULL, Louisiana, all acceptable.

Carry on.

We're sort of in the same boat. The trend is that both of us turn it around in league play. We'll see if that turns out to be the case.

I'd say Texas State is the biggest disappointment. There were people talking bowls and challenging for the top of the league...instead they have the worst defense in D1. In the case of AState, we ma have stunk to high heaven to get where we are, but few expected us to be better than 2-3 right now. Cajuns are similar situation, depending on what the average person thinks of Idaho.

Trent Miles might be the biggest disappointment in the league. I thought he would be better than this.

This is a trend BC belt football is that bad...I can't be the only one that realizes that?!

I get a sense that some ULL fans believe ULL is bad because the SBC is bad, wow.

I think that's a simplistic interpretation of what most are trying to say. As I understand their argument, many feel that the program has probably reached a ceiling as it relates to recruiting, fan support, major donations, etc due to the quality of competition in the SunBelt and national perception of the league.

I don't think anyone has beaten the drum for the SunBelt harder than I, but I must admit we seem to be the bottom of the FBS barrel most years, this year no exception. The addition of App State and GaSouthern has been the best move the Belt has made in years.

yeah I understand it but you're getting blown out by Arkon and LA Tech, really guys that's a stretch to blame the conference.

Guess we shouldn't blame Hud for his lame excuses.

I don't understand the need for what I imagine is mostly grown men on this board carrying on like that. I admit to doing that a few times with on old rival of App some years ago but only on the App board that was not shared by other schools.

On the one hand, why get upset, but on the other, you know it is being done to upset a particular fan base, and it is hard to ignore when you know it is targeted at you.

On my Bubas Cup spreadsheet I try and use the SB website nomenclature which is why I don't call you Louisiana but UL-Lafayette. UALR is now Little Rock on the SB website and I need to change that but it will change a bunch of pages on the Google Sheet as some pages are alphabetical in my lists. That may have to wait.

The problem is most Cajun posters are not like you. Many are arrogant pricks, with some bordering on downright A-hole-ishness. When they behave like that, moments like this where your team is down, it is easy to revert to that out of glee for the douchbag posters who give your school a bad name.

Not impressed with Miles but it's hard to see anyone else doing better. How do you recruit to a school in downtown Atlanta where no one, including students, cares about the athletics program? A handful of people showed up for homecoming and outside of Arbuckle and Harden the only decent players are from UAB's suicide.

Mercer and Kennesaw have been good startups because they have community support and you don't have to navigate crack heads and panhandlers between classes.

Sure do appreciate you acknowledging that, unfortunately many of your fellow fans continue to bemoan the fact that FCS "upstarts" are doing so well. Conference affiliation probably has an impact on recruiting and perception against more prestigious conferences, but I don't think the SBC is why ULL has had its arse kicked two years in a row by LA Tech. If I were a Cajun fan I'd be questioning the coach's ability to recruit, game plan, and adjust. We've fired a coach more successful than HUD for not being able to win the bigger games.

Take the high road, boorish fans or not, if not for the boorish fans, but for the reasonable ones, at least on the conference wide boards. In the end it will make our own school look better.

Not in terms of football...which is why yall are in the situation you're in now. The only reason people ride you guys like they do is because when you started you had that "oh we're in ATL, we play in the dome we're going to rake in all the recruits and be better than all of you" mentality. None of that chit matters in football, if it did Tech would be running the ACC. And Miles gets a lot of flack, a lot of it deserved, but looking at the history of your program, how easy do you think it is for them to be able to recruit?

Can you imagine being a coach that has to go sit in a kid's living room and sell them on coming to play for a program that's won what, 3 or 4 games in 4 years to come play in front of 6k people in a 70k stadium where the 80% of the students are over at GT or in Athens on Saturdays? And really, the stars of the team come from either a JC or the UAB situation. If it wasn't for Arbuckle you guys would still look like a high school team. Even if you do get the Ted, you still need to stop hiring bum coaches and drum up some support. There's just no excuse to have over 30k students and over 100k alumni within 100 miles and only be able to draw 6k people...even if you aren't winning.

Good post.

When I first came here I immediatly saw that many stAte posters preferred to use that nomenclature and I adopted it. I called App State Appy a time or two, not because I intended to be negative, just because it seemed like a neat abbreviation to me. When App State fans pointed out, via PM, that Marshal fans in the past used it in a negative fashion and that they found it offensive, I never used it again, ever.....and won't even when App State beats the snot out of us.

As mods we discussed past problems with Cajun fans on this site and I promised I'd do my best to keep things under control when they got out of hand. Fortunately, things have been pretty tame and that's what I'm trying to do, keep the conversation focused on atheltics and not falling victim to trolling and the resultant rancor.

For the record, some Cajun fans would even find my "acceptable" comment for ULL as a cardinal sin, but hey, that's the way it's going to be here. NO ONE will ever get any crap from me for its use. Now, start dishing out the ULALA's, ULLOL's etc and I'll consider it flaming and trolling and do something about it.

Thanks for being reasonable guys.04-cheers

Understood and acknowledged, though I imagine you guys see that those fellows aren't around any longer. If they do show up, feel free to ask the tough questions, but please do so without the name-baiting. You've clearly got enough arrows in the quiver at this time.

A few had that notion. Some of us are happy to have a team off our own to cheer for. And worst rebuild jobs happen all the time and turn arounds happen. And do happen all the time. Not all the stars have been jucos. Parents and kids wanna go places thelly play and get a good education period. We have made some bad hires pure and simple. My frustration is with the crack head and panhandler comment. Its a weak troll attempt on your part.

We,have been through this in MBB after Left retired. Twenty loss season and 200 fans in the gym. Now we're installing million dollar scoreboards. Things can change fast with the correct hire. In a city you must win. period. When my sister was at Houston mid 90s nobody went to games. The they turned it around. Justin Fuente inherited 70 scholarship player or less and Liberty Bowl crowds that look like ours. They re now Top 25 and averaging 45k a game. Temple! Wow. So a turnaround can happen quickly even for an urban school

Closer? Before the Tech game, I'd have said that we should have easily beaten Akron. I'm not sure anyone in the Belt is as good as LaTech right now.

You've won 9 games four years in a row. Your supposed to be the "class of the conference." Y'all lost to Akron by 21 at home and 29 to Louisiana Tech. It's LT not LSU. Jeff Driskell is their QB. It's not that you lost, it's how you lost. It should at least be competitive, within 2 TDs. If the top four programs in the conference (GS, App, stAte, and ULL) don't pull their weight, you can't expect the rest to. 07-coffee3
