NMSU's AD speaks in a public forum
Posting this for those interested in what is going on at NMSU. Lasts 51 minutes and has power point presentation attached to it. Some on here were asking about how NMSU was able to do the Stuff The Stadium, he discusses that. In the Q&A the first question is about NMSU not getting into the SBC. The two main reasons he points out are Geography and not being successful at football. Also the SBC wanting to give App State a travel partner.

Sadly not many people showed up for it. I viewed it online. Glad he is out doing these types of things.

I actually met Moccia once during his SIU days. Impressive as a person and as an AD. Where was this presentation?

It was in one of the College of Business buildings on the main campus.

Football discussion begins about minute 37. The last 15 minutes informative.

I thought he was very candid and honest in his answers. Said he expects an answer in Dec-Jan as to whether NMSU will be renewed or exited from the Belt after 2017

It's a presentation that is part introduction of himself but goes into some detail on the opportunities and challenges they face running a DI department and FBS program. He talks a lot about revenue generation and some changes they've made to already see some positive gains. So overall it was just nice to see someone go into so much detail on how they run their operation.

He addresses a question about why they didn't get the Sun Belt invite. He said it really came down to geography (didn't help App State with an Olympic sport travel partner) and that their football program didn't add any value to the conference - they haven't been competitive and haven't demonstrated that they will help the SBC be competitive with other G5 conferences.

Maybe someone knows but I don t know if it will take 9 yes votes of 11 to renew Idaho and NMSU or does it take 9 votes to exit them.

Do UTA and UALR get votes on this?

I think they do. All 11 full members vote. As I understand it the vote is whether to extend Idaho and NMSU for 2 more years thru 2019 or expel them after 2017

I don't think so, they would get to vote for them to join as all sports members, but I couldn't understand why non-football members would get a vote in football only matters. They were involved in deciding between CCU and NMSU all sports.

I know it is just word choice but I don't think they would be voting to expel anyone. The vote will likely be whether to extend / renew the contract or not.

Well it sounds like the Sunbelt will stick with 10 teams unless NMSU starts winning some conference games and shows some value. If NMSU is on the ropes, then Idaho is also even more so.

Idaho isn't on the ropes, that would imply that they are still in the fight.

He also said they have been working on other options should they leave the Sun Belt but wouldn't go into detail on what those options are. Made it seem to me that it was contingency plans if the contract was not renewed and not pro-active that they plan to leave the Sun Belt.

Interesting that he stated there are working on a few options. Indy is one for sure but wonder what the other scenarios are he mentioned? CUSA? MW?

So NMSU had only 65 schollies at one time? At least you are back up to near the 85 limit.

Yep thats what happens when you have a coach not worried about graduating students and just getting Juco kids. Walker really put Martin behind the 8 ball.

Sounds as though maybe a scheduling agreement with conference, I see no other conference adding them as a full member.
