RE: Texas State DC resigns
We were a 4-8 southland team when Fran took over. We were a terrible FCS team looking at potential humiliation once we transitioned.

Then after going 4-8 our first year FBS we went 6-6 and 7-5 bowl eligible our last two. That's much improved. Yet our dopey fan base has called on our AD to fire Fran the whole way.

Dear Lord we have the worst oldtimer fans in college football. Not an ounce of loyalty in half of them. They never do anything but gripe. They spend more time trashing the program than any opposing FB

You'd have to look hard to find a single supportive word anywhere on bobcatfans. I wish they'd just find another team to root for if they hate it that much.

This has to be disruptive when a coordinator quits during the season

Honestly, did he quit or was he given the option to go or be fired?

It seems the days immediatly following a Houston-Tx State game have become quite hazardous for coordinators of late. The Couagrs offensive coordinator "resigned" the day after the Bobcats knocked off the Cougars on opening night in 2012. Now a strangely similar scene is being repeated in San Marcos. Apparantly it's serious business if you are on the losing end of this game.

Maybe schedule the game ever other year and call it the Resigning Battle?

Interesting...there were a lot of people who actually said AState should have hired Thompson as Head Coach a couple years ago. Now he's out of work. My guess is he moves back to Arkansas. Might resurface in Jonesboro in some capacity, or he'll just take the time to retire.

John did a good job with our defense and was interim for the bowl wins.

Well hopefully we can get a Houston coordinator fired again next year. ;-)

He's welcome to come and destroy that one . . .

Stop being such a drama queen this is our first rough season since joining the belt it happens to every program from time to time.

Drama Queen? You're hilarious . . .

First rough season? Where have you been ? . .. .

We're a Case Study in Mediocrity . . . .

Tell me, aside from 1981, 1982, and 2005 . . . Just what has this program won in the Modern Era . . . .

Fran's like 23-25 since his return . . .

In the last decade, this program is little more than a .500 program. . .

I don't think recognition of that qualifies me as any kind of drama queen . . .

We are what we are . . . And what we are is not very good . . .

You are acting like it is the norm to transition to FBS and light the world on fire, most programs take a decade or more to mature into a position of consistency. I know this is a hard time for us fans but there is no need to completely over react.

Lol. In retrospect---we fired the wrong guy that day. I was never comfortable with that hire. Such an underwhelming choice. If you guys ever move on from Fran the guy I think would be a great fit for Texas State is Dino Babers. He brings Texas roots and a Briles offensive background.

If you go back and read the post by GaSoEagle, and then read what I posted about losing, you'd see I was just playing off Eagle's post . . .

As to expectations . . . No, I don't expect to set the world on fire right out of the gate . . . But I do expect better than what I've seen this year . . . . I expect a D that's better than our current "last in FBS."

And I am tired of a program that can't seem to be more than mediocre . . . And an Arhletic Dept. that seems to be just fine with the product it's been putting on the field, while asking fans to give more and show up more . . . And I don't mean mediocre for just the FBS years, this has been going on for decades . . . . We were in the Southland for what? 25 years and had one great season: 2005. . . .

Where's the fire? Where's any sense of urgency? Slogan's are great: "Leave no doubt." But I've seen nothing from the field of play that backs it up.

As to your "characterization" that I'm completely "overreacting". . . . We can agree to disagree . . .

Sometime during the second quarter in Houston, my Maroon and Gold Glasses broke

. . . . Maybe I'll find another pair. . . . But for now, I've seen this show before, and I can already tell where it's going .. . . that's not being a Drama Queen . . .that's not overreacting. . . . That's Bobcat Football . . . . Leaving NO Doubt . . . .

Wow, this is no Bueno. Does anyone have an example of this happening to a program and they turn it around. Not looking good for my Bobcats at all.

You are acting like it is the norm to transition to FBS and light the world on fire, most programs take a decade or more to mature into a position of consistency. I know this is a hard time for us fans but there is no need to completely over react.

The problem is, we have not been able to "light the world on fire" in any D1 sport. At some point we have to be good in something. We have gone through the name change, raised academics standards, seen our enrollment reach the top 50 in the country and moved to FBS. Our slogan is "The Rising Star of Texas." At some point it is unacceptable to have that slogan and be mediocre in athletics.

Take basketball for example. We have not had a winning season in basketball since 2004. Stephen F. Austin is 88-13 over the past three seasons. Their small school has found a way to win in a small town in East Texas. What is our excuse?

This is Coach Fran's fifth season and we look to be going in the wrong direction. Defensively we were bad last season and this season we are horrible. One of the worst defensive football teams I have ever seen. You would think with all of the football talent in Texas we could find 11 guys that can play defensive football. Even Mayo was a west coast kid.

We ranked #59 in total defense (yardage) in the nation in 2013 under Craig Naivar, #100 in 2014 and #126 this season. It was just not working with John Thompson. I think it is time for the school to set different standards for athletics.

Independent - 6-6
Wac- 4-8 (played 3 ranked teams in our first year... ouch)
Sun Belt 6-6, 7-5

So since starting FBS we have had 1 losing season and 3 bowl eligible or would be eligible seasons. Not saying 6-6 and 7-5 are particularly impressive but some people are acting like this years hypothetically bad season is just a continuation of mediocrity when in reality for a team to transition and be this successful is not the norm. Don't get me wrong I am as pissed off at our play thus far as anyone else but there is still 3/4 of the season left to play and anything could happen. Hell App st was looking like a bust even losing to their FCS opponent last season then they went on a 6 game win streak and then all of the sudden they are a top team in the belt. Just keep calm and tape up those maroon and gold glasses our program will get through this.
