JMU admin is crazy. The fans want FBS but obviously the administration has no interest at all. They will be lucky if the fans don't completely revolt, even though it's probably too late now since Coastal got the Sun Belt open spot.

JMU has basically sealed their fate as a FCS, maybe that changes in the next ten years but it seems unlikely. Coastal grabbed up the eastern slot because they were motivated to move and willing to work to make it happen. JMU while a good looking prize failed in both of those categories.

If we were out at the bar scene JMU was the 9 surrounded by ugly friends but was totally unwilling to leave her comfort zone and take a chance. Coastal was the 7 who cleaned up well and was totally down to party whenever, wherever it took her. Guess who went home that night....

If Coastal gives us anything that requires penicillin then I am blaming you for this analogy.

Hey Rev. The hand writing is on the wall. All you've got to do is read it.

"Idaho's AD may have filled in some info here. He was interviewed at halftime of their game with Georgia Southern and was asked about their future with the Sun Belt.

He said that they signed a 4 year deal and the SBC will evaluate their status after year 2 (which is this season). He did say that they also need to perform better and show that they belong in the SBC. The more interesting comment was that he thinks for stability they need a west based FBS conference and that it could / should be the Big Sky and that the Big Sky commissioner shares that vision.

It could be the answer for NMSU and Idaho to leave the Sun Belt and perhaps open up other teams to join the SBC."

Instant upgrade across the board.

Let's wait until after the season and see if Idaho and NMSU get the majority vote required for a renewal before tossing rocks at the windows.

For UTA and UALR to be expelled would require a three-fourths vote of the other members. AState, TXST, and I expect ULM aren't going to vote to expel.

I've never been clear -- what is the voting threshold to keep Idaho & NMSU? Does it take 3/4 to renew? 3/4 to not renew? Majority rules? And do UTA & UALR have votes?

1) More money - Some of it should be shared
2) More practice for two teams - one week but still
3) Doesn't cost much
4) Resolves championships when the two teams didn't play each other
5) It will be on TV (and not ESPN 3)
6) It might help get another team into a bowl or the winner into a better bowl.

I'm not knocking, I kind of agree with you in general... But how is it more money?

Ticket revenue will most likely be neglible in comparison to costs. Student fees and donations aren't going to change, so it will be non-student ticket revenue that will be the case. Given the need for another week of concessions, officials, parking lot people, etc... I don't see it being a windfall of cash. If anything, I figure it might be a few thousand bucks.

And I can guarantee it won't help another team get into a bowl. If anything, it would diminish the second place team (not that I'm against it). I look at it two ways: if we are worried about making sure the conference runner up gets a bowl bid, then we got BIGGER problems than anyone recognizes, and also, nobody is going to say "hey, this team MIGHT be ok for our bowl... oh wait... They lost their conference championship. They'll be PERFECT!"

Now, it might help the winner get to a more prestigious bowl, which I think is the benefit everyone should focus on. That, and the additional week of practice for the top two teams in the conference which should be assured bowls already. Could help them perform better in their bowls.

Respectfully disagree... We lost the 2013 CUSA championship and played Maryland in the Military Bowl. Pretty sure losing the CCG was of ZERO negative consequence to us.

The concern isn't missing a bowl. The concern is missing the access bowl or even a chance at the playoffs (i.e. NIU).

Funny that you mention that as NIU made the Orange Bowl only because they did play in a championship game by beating a higher ranked Kent State team in Detroit. Without that game NIU never goes to the Orange Bowl.

You like to read into things a lot more than I. Everything I hear from my sources say "nope. Idaho & NMSU aren't going anywhere unless UTA starts football, or a western team shows interest in joining".

Given the way the Sun Belt has overall performed this OOC season, I don't see any FBS teams jumping ship to us. I don't see any FCS teams in the west ready to make the jump.

And the UTA/UALR thing is just... well, dumb.

As long as you're keeping Idaho, why not add NDSU while you're at it? Idaho could use a travel partner. lol

If the Sun Belt just wanted to make some noise on the quality front they would try to add NDSU, SDSU, UNI and Illinois State. That would be a pretty remarkable football conference. Doubt those schools would want to switch for basketball though.

NDSU...I'd trade them for Idaho in a heart beat. The others?? With the slight exception of UNI, they move the needle ZERO in the South.

Wonder if NDSU would make a move for football only? Or, if the Belt would even be interested.

It may not move the needle in the south but would improve the conference and adds some geographic proximity.

NDSU has already said it is going to offer FCOA.

Whoever said CCU would be next has better sources than those that had NMSU being added for all sports. Anyone remember who know that first, I honestly can't recall.

Just watched a few minutes of the JMU - Stony Brook one-sided game in a half-empty (or was it half-full?) stadium in the rain. They have a very nice 25,000+ seat stadium. Too bad it is going to waste on school that is satisfied to stay FCS in the CAA.

43 degrees in the rain, noon game on parents weekend against another nobody.

Not shocking that attendance was poor.

While i know not that the TV shots showed many empty seats in the stadium. OFFICIAL attendance was 21,653, for a comparison to the area on the east coast Wake Forest/Florida State game had 28K ! We use the same counting preferences as all the other attendance bean counters do, so don't knock the low crowd at Bridgeforth on Sat. night. I doubt that many Sun Belt schools got close to that, and that was in the rain and high 40's temp. While playing a game most knew we would win, and it was a 12 noon game. After a blow out 1st half most went home to dry out and warm up.
