Pretty much. I tend to take personal responsibility for my own actions. I know that's rare in the US these days. As far as day care, we did that for a while but then my wife decided to stay home. That was a choice that greatly impacted our income, but so far, it's been the wise choice.

Daycare has many advantages however. It's not all bad. I have two daughters, my first stayed with grandma and it was wonderful but socially, she wasn't ready for school. My second is at daycare and socially, she can totally handle herself.

The oil leak would have cost more to fix than the car was worth. My daughter works but only part time. She can't walk to school because it's 15 miles away. This old car WAS reliable but the oil leak was a problem.
