Exactly what I was thinking. That was more fancy number calculation and marketing than anything of substance. $800,000 over 9 years = $89,000 a year in new subsidies. In regard to the importance and value of such an invite, that offer is almost insulting to pitch as a reason to be invited.

I commend them for trying to put something together, but it is only $89,000 in $25M+ budgets.

It points out that the actual travel costs beyond average travel are not that great.

Maybe. I don't think it is the actual cost but rather the subsidy they were willing to provide - albeit with restrictions.

If you want to talk big money - Liberty supposedly offered $10 million to join the conference and were turned down.

Cajuns want out to be with teams they have more history with (though surprisingly, those calls have been relatively quiet lately).

Georgia State apparently made some jokes when they were FBS and Georgia Southern was FCS. Georgia Southern can't seem to forget this, and so in spite of them claiming to not be rivals, they constantly deride Georgia State.

That's all true and I've read threads on both their boards speculating about receiving invitations and leaving the SBC. Tulane is in the AAC so it wouldn't surprise me. If they think Tulane delivers New Orleans they could easily think GA St delivers Atlanta.
