Parking off Oakland
Did anyone park in the large grass lot just past the psychiatric hospital? Is this an area that is normally available of just used for overflow? Seems like it would be a nice area to tailgate with lots of grass.

We did. It was pretty incredible. There were people tailgating from the stadium all the way to Howard and Oakland.

RE: Parking off Oakland
We usually do 104 behind health and human services. No grass and it's often overrun with students. That "grass" lot near the psych hospital looked perfect. I asked the attendant what lot number it was considered and she said they call it "the grass lot" or something like that. I can't find it on the list of lots so I'm guessing it's just used as overflow.

At the homecoming game last year, we tailgated under the little tree stand at Oliver and Cass. It was beautiful.

THAT was really cool, I agree. We drove up to the intersection of Howard and Oakland and it felt like a big time environment seeing people tailgating that far from the stadium. Loved it.

RE: Parking off Oakland
My parking and traffic observations: 1. Lots were accepting cars well before the 3:00 hour. 2. Oakland Dr. was bumper to bumper from 3:30 on. Several lots like Lot 1 were not close to full but required a special permit. We thought that lot was for any paying customer? 3. Great to see downtown Kzoo so busy in the early afternoon and decked out with WMU flags every 10 feet in Kalamazoo Mall area!! Felt great! Parking was definitely an issue for anyone that got to the stadium area after 4:00 an did not have a special pass. I know several season ticket holders that could not find a parking lot to use. They were not happy.

I must have been looking in the wrong spots downtown because when I went there at around 2 I could find nothing going on. I was frustrated with the parking a bit, particularly the special parking pass areas which surprised me. I ended up parking in a grass lot at Oakland and Oliver.
When is east campus area going to be done, and will that be open for general parking? It was special parking only on Friday. That was always my favorite place to park.

We had a parking pass for lot 12 about 150 strokes from the stadium. We rowed in about 5 and got right in. We had to remove one peasant from our reserved spot and we docked.

Truth.
I was so frosted at recent events I didn't respond to this years requests from the Gary Fund. Received a nice personal note from my sponsor. You can't say that the effort isn't there on their part as an excuse.

Plus 3 or 4 phone calls from WMU students asking if we were coming to a tail gate or the game and asking us to attend. I checked with several other season ticket holders I know and they also got calls. Go Broncos BE A PART OF THE PROCESS NOT A SQUEEKING WHEEL.

I've bought plenty of season tickets. Your paying for a good seat at a discount no less. That hardly the same as giving to the Gary Fund or throwing in inflated dollars for a parking space that normally goes for $10 if doesn't fill up with donors.
i know a guy who is far from rich and has donated tens of thousands to WMU, but given their first chance they dropped him like a hot potato after screwing him royally. If you want to give money to schmooze with this attention whore go right ahead.

Might just make more sense to invest in a suite... Better parking and free beer!

I've sat in a suit for a game as well as the Gill. I eventually left to sit where you could actually see the game. It's nice getting out of the cold in Nov. but outside of that its there to schmooze clients, impress friends, and get a tax write off.

Well, my sponsor is such a nice man, I went back and forth with my resentment and anger, "We've been Broncos longer than these employees, booster who isn't even an alum, etc".
I couldn't arrive at a settling decision, so I decided they have their "big donors" for Gary these days and said, "fawk em", donated $500.00 to Haworth, called it good.
I'll be back when the cult mentality is out of our culture. Maybe it'll take another kool aid party.
Blue Line is going to get some love from me as well.

RE: Parking off Oakland
We were there. All of us (our group regularly tailgates at least a couple games per year) commented that we don't recall ever seeing the grass full that far from Waldo; we usually are in Lot 43.
Anyway, great area. Atmosphere was very calm (especially compared to some other lots, I assume) but quite nice. Considering the crowds, I think WMU did a pretty damn good job overall managing the tailgating and traffic.
