I don't like their chances, but the line is almost a push right now on most sites. If they had Dudek back I think they'd have a better shot. He's a difference maker.

RE: The Fightin' Cubits lookin good
Why are the fans upset? With all the coaching hires and such -- and Illinois not doling out massive paychecks or anything to make up for their history, etc -- with the lack of options, why get a hire who's most likely going to be Worse? At best, gamble to get some PJ-like guy, but fans would be MORE upset as the odds wouldn't be in their favor.
And a 2 year deal is really just a 1 year deal. So it's just holding out as the options aren't there to hire a great coach -- they're all going to be taken elsewhere. They probably already shopped around for it, and unsurprisingly couldn't find it as this year is the Wrong time to fire a mere mediocre (or better) coach. All good options are going to be taken.

Fleck is going to beat Illinois next year. Half of the board will be rooting for Illinois

It will be WMU old vs WMU new!! :)
Cubit's definitely going to have his team prepared for it though.

Which part? The winning or the rooting?

Both. As much as many good Broncos can't stand Peej and his bs ways, they'd never pull for WMU to lose.

RE: The Fightin' Cubits lookin good
Watching the Illinois/Northwestern game. It just hit me that Illinois is the WMU of the Big Ten. If history is a guide we can expect Illinois to play about .500 football during Cubit's tenure. They put him in a bit of a precarious position with a two-year contract, he may have to constantly explain his short contract to recruits. Meanwhile, other Big Ten schools will use that against Illinois during the recruiting process. I wish him well and I hope I am proven wrong.

I hope they go 11-1, only losing to WMU -- getting stomped by WMU -- but winning the rest.

The Fightin' Cubits finish 5-7 with victories over schools such as Western Illinois, Middle Tennesee, and Kent State.

Illini four wins over FBS teams this year: Those teams had a combined 17-31 record.

Yup, and my statement that the program is void of talent proves to be true, in spite of others claiming otherwise.
Most big time Illinois HS talent has always gone to ND, Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin, Purdue or NW. The exception is an occasional West Coast leak out to USC and or Stanford.
Illinois is a hoops school, always has been and will be. They have made attempts with John Mackovic and Mike White as headers and tasted some success. But Mackovic left shortly because of the culture I mentioned and Mike White was found to be cheating in order to win.

So did WMU under Coach Fleck. So they must be equal?
