This is a joke right? Penny is the greatest Tiger ever. Others ahead of Nichols from players I know I can't go back as far as some but Keith Lee, William Bedford, Andre Turner, Vincent Askew, Cedric Henderson, Elliot Perry, CDR, Elliot Williams, Derrick Rose were all better Tigers. I'm sure there are more that go back before my time as well I'm only 34 so that's guys I saw play.

Yes! Or a troll if you prefer. They post this nonsense for their own amusement.

RE: Was Austin Nichols the greatest Tiger ever?
Nichols was good, I would have taken him.

I can think of several Tiger big men off the top of my head I would take instead: Vaughn, Wright, etc.

If you throw in other players, it's not even close: Hardaway, Rose, etc.

Is this a serious question?!?!

He was possibly top 10 or 15 non-African American Tigers. Is that enough to be a legend?

That would actually be an interesting discussion. We would need some really old heads to chime in though to compile the list.

I would have to go back and check the stats on Kenny "The Buffalo" Andrews but that is where I would start my AN comparison for best player.

Well, say what you will, but I would put him on my first string "All Daddy" team.

John wilfong. I remember they had a dunk contest for kids on those goals u had in your room as he was the judge for it. I guess Hank McDowell was good too he played professionally.

Here's a start Wayne Yates, Forest Arnold, Orby Arnold, Win Wilfong, John Wilfong, Dennis Isabel, Bill Cook, Todd Mundt, Brett Mundt, Mike Butler, Hunter Beckman, Lowry Kirk, Bill Laurie

Nichols went 9 PPG and 4 RPG his freshman year, and 13/6 last year.

I went through Trip's Tigers rosters, and compiled this list. Many couldn't play their freshman year, and it's hard to compare without seeing stats, and I sure as hell don't remember stats, so I just listed all the solid players that fit the description.

Those with asterisks, I KNOW would be ranked ahead of Nichols. The others are decent possibilities. And I could have a hiccup here and there. Going strictly by memory.

Forrest Arnold*
Jack Butcher*
Win Wilfong*
Orby Arnold*
James Hockaday*
Skip Wolfe*
George Price
Lowery Kirk*
Hunter Beckman*
Wayne Yates
George Kirk
Bob Neumann*
Gene Wilfong
John Hillman*
Mike Butler*
Herb Hilliard*
Bill Laurie
Wes Westfall*
Hank McDowell
Jon Albright
John Wilfong
Marvin Alexander
Sylvester Gray
Todd Mundt

Not that any of this matters, but it's interesting to discuss. Problem is, obviously, most of the non-African-American stars were back in the old days, and those of us who saw them play are fast fading.

No way on both mundts. No way on john wilfong. I am too young but i thought lauire was just an average dude who played with studs. Again, i could be way wrong on laurie.

Um, the two bolded would not qualify.

That is why i said we would need older folks to chime in. In my lifetime the white star is rare indeed.

Appreciate the list.
